LAKESIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- While many drivers say a new Caltrans project in the East County is making SR-67 safer, some say it's literally making them sick to their stomach.Long considered one of the most dangerous roads in San Diego County, Caltrans is currently working on a million project to improve safety between Lakeside and Ramona.  A key part of the project is the installation of flexible posts called "channelizers" in the median.  Channelizers are bright yellow so they can be easily seen, helping prevent cars from drifting across the center into oncoming traffic."I think it'll save lives. I really do," Andy Jones tells 10News. Jones regularly drives the 67 for work.However, since the channelizers began being installed over the last few weeks, there have been a handful of reports of drivers becoming queasy.  One man told 10News the way the light reflects off the channelizers at night makes him feel nauseated.  The Ramona Sentinel reports that two people have called the Ramona Planning Board with similar complaints.Driver Donna Gines says the channelizers make her feel safer on her regular drives from Rancho Bernardo to Barona, but she can understand whey they could make some people feel ill."Some people don't react well to reflectors," she said. "It's kind of like a strobe light, maybe? And maybe it does make them dizzy."Caltrans tells 10News they have not received any direct complaints. However, after 10News raised the concern, Caltrans decided to do a review of how the channelizers are functioning.  They plan to send crews at different times of day to see if any changes need to be made. 1663

(KGTV)- Wednesday morning, 59-year-old Leslie Furcron slowly made her way to reporters outside the La Mesa Police Department to speak for the first time since she was shot in the forehead by the police bean bag during a protest and then hospitalized.“I'm a law-abiding citizen and I never came here that night for this to be a part of my story,” she said.Attorney Dante Pride said she was one of the thousands of people in front of the La Mesa Police Department two Saturdays ago where she was peacefully protesting police violence. At the time she was hit, police say officers deemed the gathering an unlawful assembly so they began to use measures to disperse protesters, including tear gas and bean bag rounds. He added that she can't remember everything because of her injury. He did address the Facebook Live video she posted, which appeared to show her throwing a can.“The information that we have now is that she threw a can on the ground and in retaliation for that is when the La Mesa Police Department officers targeted and shot her in the face,” he told reporters.In a timeline released on Tuesday by city officials, a round was fired from about 40 yards away toward her after she was reportedly seen throwing an object at deputies.“There is nothing on camera or anywhere that will show that she made an officer of La Mesa Police Department either fear for their life or injured them,” he told reporters.“I'm a god-serving person. I'm a mother and a grandmother,” he stated.Pride said that his firm has now filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the City to get the names of the officers who were directly involved in the incident.On Wednesday, the La Mesa Police Department sent 10News the following statement:“Chief Walt Vasquez would like to issue the following statement regarding the Leslie Furcron incident: ‘I am sincerely thankful that Ms. Furcron has been released from the hospital and is able to now heal at home with her family. LAKESIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- The forward rate of spread of a Lakeside brush fire has been stopped, Cal Fire said. The announcement comes after the San Diego Sheriff's Department evacuated 14402-14470 Willow Road as the blaze threatened homes Wednesday afternoon. Evacuations were lifted shortly after 3:30 p.m.According to the Cal Fire, the fire sparked around 12:40 p.m. near the 14000 block of Willow Road. Crews were quickly able to stop of spread of the original fire, but a second, larger fire erupted about 15 minutes later.In total, the blaze scorched 52 acres and, as of Wednesday night, was 100 percent contained. #WillowFire in Lakeside [final] All units available. LEBANON, Indiana — A 4-year-old girl was hospitalized in critical condition after she was accidentally shot Thursday by her younger brother, police say.According to the Lebanon Police Department, the shooting happened at the children’s grandparent’s house in the 300 block of N. Park Street shortly after 10 a.m.The 4-year-old was shot in the head by her younger brother, believed to be 2 years old, police say.The 4-year-old was taken to Riley Hospital in critical condition, police say. Investigators from the Lebanon Police Department and representatives from the Department of Family and Child Services are investigating the incident. 646
