SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police have released video footage after officers shot and killed a murder suspect following a standoff on May 29.The 32-year-old suspect who was shot and killed was accused of shooting and killing another man at a City Heights apartment complex.The video shows officer stationed outside the apartment complex. Watch the full video below:According to police, gunfire was reported at the complex on the 3800 block of Euclid Avenue around 3:30 p.m.Officers later found a 62-year-old Hispanic man with at least one gunshot wound. The man was treated before being pronounced dead.Officers were then directed to a nearby complex where the suspect was believed to be hiding while a SWAT team arrived.RELATED: San Diego police officers shoot, kill murder suspect following standoff in City Heights"The suspect walked half way down the stairs towards the officers' positions and challenged them to come get him before retreating back into his apartment," police said.The man then descended back down the stairs towards officers."When the suspect had descended half way down the stairs, he extended a pistol in the direction of the officers. Three officers fired their weapons at the suspect, striking him several times," a San Diego Police Department statement said. "Specially trained STAR medics deployed with the SWAT team to provide aid, but the suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer says the city's Get It Done mobile app has led to thousands of tons of trash being removed.In the app's first three years, more than 7,000 tons of trash, debris, and waste has been removed from public spaces around the city.The city broke that number up into:Illegal dumping/litter removal - 4,440 tons of wasteEncampment debris cleanup - 2,528 tons of wasteThe app was made available in 2017 to encourage residents to report trash and other concerns in their neighborhoods. Since then, city crews have responded to more than 6,500 reports and conducted more than 32,000 proactive cleanups.The average response time has also shrunk from 25 days in 2017 to five days in 2020, the city says.Council members have also been able to use the data received from the app to identify hot spots in their districts.The app is part of the city's "Clean SD" program. The program was born out of a need to clean unsanitary areas in the public, including homeless encampments, according to the city. Since 2017, the city has sanitized and power washed 18,000 city blocks, or about 1,800 miles of sidewalk."Clean SD is all about restoring a sense of pride in our communities and making sure our neighborhoods are clean and safe for everyone. Our cleanup crews have accomplished that and so much more," Faulconer said this week from the site of a frequent illegal dumping site in Paradise Hills. "This has truly been a citywide push to beautify our neighborhoods and we encourage San Diegans to keep using the ‘Get It Done’ app to report issues that we need to address in their community." 1631

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County will plan their own guidance around trick-or-treating and celebrating Halloween next month while staying safe during the pandemic.County Public Health Officer Dr. Wilma Wooten said the county will develop guidance surrounding how to safely celebrate the holiday while adhering to public health orders. Wooten added that they will also take cues from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the agency's guidance as well.Wooten said the county plans to have those recommendations by the end of the month."During the cloud of the pandemic, we have to get joy where we can. So we will be awaiting CDC guidelines but we'll be coming up with a process, a protocol," said Wooten. "For example, a drive-thru Halloween event to allow children to don their Halloween costumes and we plan to probably have that codified by the end of this month.RELATED: Los Angeles County backs off trick-or-treating ban, but advises strongly against it"But right now, there is no discrete plan."Tuesday, Los Angeles County issued guidelines that banned trick-or-treating and trunk-or-treat, in which children take candy from parked cars, under the county health order. Wednesday, county officials walked back that guidance and said the trick-or-treating is "not recommended.""Trick-or-treating, we're highly recommending that it not happen," Los Angeles County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said. "We don't think it's an appropriate activity during a pandemic. ... You know, there's no guarantee when you go trick-or-treating that your child goes up to a house where the person who opens the door is wearing a face covering. And when you don't know the people opening the door, there's no guarantee they're not sick and that the candy they're passing out that they've touched may not be safe for you to want your child to be sharing."Wednesday, San Diego County reported 247 new coronavirus cases, bringing the region's total to 41,324. The county also has 22 community outbreaks in the last seven days.What's unclear is how California's new color-coded tier system to affect how any holiday guidance is established. Last month, the state issued a new tier system that divided counties into four tiers. San Diego is currently in the second tier, red or "substantial," reserved for counties with four to seven cases per 100,000 and 5% to 8% testing positivity. Wednesday, the county reported that one of those metrics, case rate, neared 7 cases while positivity sat at 4.2%.
