Despite multiple reports suggesting that the hit sitcom "Friends" would be dropped from Netflix's lineup on Jan. 1, Netflix announced on Monday that the sitcom will remain a part of Netflix's lineup through 2019. Talk about a pivot! The speculation was fueled by a notice on "Friends'" Netflix page that said the sitcom would be on through Jan. 1. This comes less than a week after WarnerMedia announced the launch of a new streaming service sometime in 2019.The previous reports prompted fans of "Friends" to launch an online petition to encourage Netflix to keep "Friends" as part of its service. The petition had nearly 17,000 signatures.  669

DENVER -- Starting with the next academic year, students in a Colorado school districtwill attend classes for four days each week instead of five. For the past few months, the 27J school district — which covers portions of the Denver suburbs, including Brighton, Commerce City, Henderson and Thornton in addition to unincorporated areas of Adams, Broomfield and Weld counties — has been exploring and discussing the idea of a shorter week and on Monday, the district made it official.Students will attend classes Tuesday through Friday. Rather than extending the school year to meet state requirements for instruction time, students will be in class longer each day.For elementary schools and full-day kindergarten, school will begin at 7:50 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m. Middle and high schools will start at 8:30 a.m. and end at 4:32 p.m.To address concerns from parents about child care on Mondays, the district will offer child care from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. for a fee of per child per day.District officials said the change is due in part to the district's difficulty competing with other districts in terms of recruiting and retaining teachers, who often leave for other districts that pay better. Officials hope a shorter work week will encourage more teachers to stay put."I realize this will be a significant change for our students, their families, and the communities we are so fortunate to serve, but our district can no longer be expected to do more with less financial resources," said 27J Superintendent Dr. Chris Fiedler. "We are 100% committed to providing our students with the necessary skills and competencies that will enable a future far beyond graduation. To that end, I believe it is in our students' best interest to provide high quality, engaged teachers using 21st Century tools for learning four days a week rather than not have them five days a week."The district joins nearly 100 others around the state that have already transitioned to a shorter week.Read more about the four-day school week at District 27J's website here. 2068

DETROIT — A 20-year-old woman believed to have died was found breathing at a Detroit funeral home.According to an attorney hired by her family, workers at the funeral home were close to embalming Timesha Beauchamp before realizing that she was still breathing."They were about to embalm her which is most frightening had she not had her eyes open. They would have begun draining her blood to be very, very frank about it," said Geoffrey Fieger, an attorney who has been hired by Beauchamp's family. On Sunday morning, paramedics with the Southfield Fire Department in Michigan responded after receiving a call about an unresponsive woman. The department's fire chief said Beauchamp was not breathing when the paramedics arrived.First responders determined after 30 minutes of revival efforts that she was deceased."Because there was no indication of foul play, as per standard operating procedure, the Oakland County Medical Examiner's Office was contacted and given the medical data. The patient was again determined to have expired and the body was released directly to the family to make arrangements with a funeral home of their choosing," the chief said in a statement.Fieger says that Beauchamp's godmother — a registered nurse — tried to tell EMS workers that she felt a pulse.Hours later, the staff at the James H. Cole funeral home realized she was still breathing. "It’s one of people's worst nightmares to imagine having an ambulance called and instead, sending you off to a funeral home in a body bag. The funeral home unzipping the body bag, literally, that’s what happened to Timesha, and seeing her alive with her eyes open," Fieger said.Beauchamp is in critical condition at Sinai Grace Hospital and is on a ventilator. Fieger said that the 90-minute delay Beauchamp encountered by going to the funeral home instead of going to the hospital may be critical to her recovery. It is still unclear what led up to the call for the unresponsive woman.“A local emergency department physician pronounced the patient deceased based upon medical information provided by the Southfield Fire Department at the scene. After which, the Southfield Police Department contacted the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office to notify them of the findings and the on-duty forensic pathologist released the body to the family," the Southfield Fire Department said in a statement. "The Southfield Fire and Police Departments followed all appropriate city, county and state protocols and procedures in this case. The City of Southfield is currently conducting a thorough internal investigation in addition to the Oakland County Medical Control Authority (OCMCA) which will be reporting their findings to the State of Michigan Bureau of EMS, Trauma and Preparedness (BETP). In an effort to provide as much transparency as possible, more information will be provided as it is available.”This story was originally published by WXYZ in Detroit. 2940

DENVER – Funeral services for a pregnant Colorado woman and her two daughters, who were killed earlier this month and dumped at an oil and gas site will be held Saturday in Pinehurst, North Carolina. The family of 34-year-old Shanann Watts, her daughters, 4-year-old Bella Marie and 3-year-old Celeste Cathryn, and Shanann’s unborn child, which the family said was going to be called Nico, announced in the Sandhill Sentinel that funeral services would be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Pinehurst.“She was out pride and joy, a true gift from God,” Shanann’s father and mother, Frank Rzucek and Sandra Onorati Rzucek, wrote in her obituary. “We were so blessed to have such a joyful and wonderful daughter whose beauty was that of a doll.”The obituary says Shanann battled Lupus during life and that Celeste’s birth was exciting because of her struggle with the disease. She and her family were originally from North Carolina. The family asks people to donate to the Lupus Foundation of America, the Frederick (Colo.) Police Department Missing Persons Division or the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in lieu of flowers. People can leave messages for the family by clicking here. DENVER — A 16-year-old girl killed her 7-year-old nephew after the boy threw a fit when the girl refused to play video games with him, according to court documents.Seven-year-old Jordan Vong went missing on Aug. 6. His body was found a day later when FBI agents and police obtained a warrant to enter his family’s Montbello home a day later.According to a probable cause statement, the 16-year-old girl accused of killing her nephew told police she pushed Jordan off her bed after he refused to move and amid a crying fit. She then “placed her hand over Jordan's mouth and plugged his nose as Jordan began to struggle for a few minutes."The girl, whom authorities have not yet identified, was arrested last Wednesday after Vong’s body was discovered inside his family’s home Aug. 7, the day after he was killed. On Monday, she was charged with first-degree murder and felony child abuse charges.According to the document, the teenage suspect told police that on Aug. 6, Vong went down to her basement bedroom and asked her to play video games with him. When she refused, the boy became upset and laid down on her bed, the document read. She said this made her angry, which caused her to push the boy off her bed “causing him to strike his face on the floor,” the statement read. The document said after Jordan stopped moving, the girl told police she put the body underneath her bed before removing it, wrapping it in a blanket and placing it in a portable closet in her room. She told investigators that she did not say a word to family members about what she allegedly did or where the body was hidden. Vong’s body was found by authorities in the portable closet Tuesday evening amid the execution of a search warrant.According to the probable cause statement, Vong’s body was found with a “towel and comforter around his head, biological matter and blood about his nose, and an unknown imprint on Vong’s chest.” He was first reported missing around 4:30 p.m. Monday.Police said the victim’s mother called 911 and reported her son missing. She told police she last saw Vong in the living room of their residence using his tablet computer. The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner said Monday it had determined Vong’s manner of death was homicide, but that his cause of death was “still pending.” 2349
