California authorities launched a manhunt early Wednesday for a man suspected of killing a police officer during a traffic stop.Officer Ronil Singh, 33, pulled over the suspect just before 1 a.m. in a mostly residential part of Newman, a city of 11,000 located about 70 miles east of San Jose."A few moments later he called out 'shots fired' over the radio," according to a news release from the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department, which is leading the investigation. It was the second death in days involving a parade float and cast a pall over the Carnival festivities. Brother and sister Paul and Angelica Gallegos have spent a lot more time together this past school year. That’s because their school district, 27J outside Denver, became the first district in a major metropolitan area to switch to a four-day school week.And at first, it was a scary idea for mom Crystal.“I was a little freaked out,” Gallegos said.She had to convince her employer to let her work from home, since her kids would now be there every Monday. So far, she says the new school schedule hasn’t been that hard to get used to.“I like it, but that’s because I get to spend time with my kids,” she said.Every Monday they’ve come to a local state park where the kids volunteer.“We feed the animals we feed the birds,” said 12 year old Angelica. “On certain days we take kids on trail walks.”But asked if they prefer the new shorter weeks in class?“[I’d] go back to the old way,” says 9-year-old Paul. “I’d rather have school Mondays then stay an extra hour.”To make their weeks shorter, the four classroom days have to be longer. As the number of lung illness cases involving people who vape continues to grow, one city is telling people to stop using immediately.Now, vaping company Juul says it’s making it harder for younger people to buy their e-cigarettes.Sixteen people were hospitalized in Wisconsin with chemical pneumonia that doctors believe was caused by vaping. There have been 200 cases across the country.Despite the FDA declaring teen vaping as an epidemic, the Consumer Advocates for Smoke-Free Alternatives Association (CASAA) says vaping is still a better option than smoking."Flavorings and the base ingredients in e-liquid products made with nicotine are all alcohol base; those products don't cause this lipoid pneumonia,” says Alex Clark with CASAA.However, Clark says the problem causing these lung issues comes from users buying THC-filled cartridges from underground dealers.CASAA believes the black market manufacturers could be putting dangerous chemicals into illegal vaping products.This week, Juul’s CEO Kevin Burns told CBS This Morning these health reports are worrisome.The company announced it’s working with e-cigarette vendors to implement an ID verification system that prohibits cashiers from selling to underage shoppers and limits the amount customers can buy.Clark says he’s concerned more restriction on vaping products could lead to bigger problems.
