A bus crash early Monday killed one child and wounded 40 other people, most of them children, on Interstate 30 west of Benton, Arkansas State Police said.The charter bus, which was carrying a youth football team home from a championship game it played over the weekend, was traveling from Texas to Memphis, Tennessee, when it left the road and turned over, police said. Authorities received a call around 2:40 a.m. (3:40 ET) and found the bus on its side near the Hot Springs exit on I-30.The children were between 8 and 10 years old and had chaperones accompanying them on the bus, state police spokesman Bill Sadler said."When troopers arrived at the scene, many of the children were already off of the bus," Sadler said. "Some of them were stunned or had minor injuries."The injured were transported to hospitals in Benton and in Little Rock, about 25 miles northeast of Benton. Two victims had to be airlifted, Sadler said.It does not appear that weather played any role in the crash, he said. A college student from Georiga's jail sentence was reduced from four months to two months on Tuesday in the Cayman Islands after she and her boyfriend violated strict COVID-19 measures last month.According to The New York Times and CNN, the Cayman Islands Court of Appeal reduced 18-year-old Skylar Mack and her 24-year-old boyfriend Vanjae Ramgeet's prison sentence, saying the initial sentence "was not appropriate."Last week, Mack and Ramgeet were sentenced to four months after they both violated the island's mandatory two-week quarantine.Per the Associated Press, Mack arrived on the island on Nov. 27, but on Nov. 29, she broke quarantine by leaving with her boyfriend to attend a water sports event.According to The Times, Mack and Ramgeet initially pleaded guilty to breaking the quarantine rules and were to complete 40 hours of community service. They were also fined ,100.But last week, the prosecutor appealed the ruling saying the sentences were too lenient and a judge sentenced to four months in jail.The Cayman Compass reported that Mack nor Ramgeet plan to appeal the Court of Appeal's ruling. 1121

A judge in Georgia has dismissed a Trump campaign lawsuit that raised concerns about a handful of absentee ballots in Chatham County.The Associated Press reports that Chatham County Superior Court Judge James Bass dismissed the lawsuit and did not provide an explanation for his decision at the close of a one-hour hearing.The lawsuit concerned 53 absentee ballots that were not part of an original batch of ballots. At the hearing, county officials testified that the ballots in question had been received on time.The decision comes as Joe Biden continues to narrow the razor-thin lead that President Donald Trump currently has in the state.Donald Trump held a 1.2% advantage in the state with 96% of the expected vote counted on Wednesday evening.As of Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. ET, Georgia Sec. of State Brad Raffensperger's says that about 47,000 votes remained uncounted. A man stood on a freeway overpass near Detroit early Thursday, threatening to jump. So thirteen tractor-trailers lined up underneath, ready to break his fall.Troopers closed off both directions of Interstate 696 and asked for the truckers' help, hoping to protect the man in case he fell or jumped, said Lt. Mike Shaw of the Michigan State Police.Asking truckers to help in such cases is not unusual, Shaw said, but "most of the time these events are (resolved) pretty fast, so we only get one semi."This time it took about three hours to get the man, whom police declined to identify, down from the bridge, he said.It was 911 calls that alerted police to the man around 1 a.m. Tuesday on the overpass in Huntington Woods, just outside Detroit, Shaw said."Once we figured out that this is a situation where someone might be contemplating taking their whole life ... we shut traffic down (and) we diverted it off onto the side streets," Shaw said.Troopers looked for big rigs exiting the highway and asked them to drive ahead instead and park beneath the overpass. The 13 trucks packed in tightly to minimize the gaps between them.Should the man have fallen, Shaw said, it would have been only five or six feet onto the roof of a truck, rather than 14 feet to the cement below.Police ended up talking the man down, he said."Usually when we talk to people that are involved in these type of incidents," Shaw said, "usually there's a trigger.
