(KGTV) - Southwest Airlines announced plans to begin offering flights to four Hawaiian airports later this year. The airlines will begin selling tickets sometime in 2018 for flights to Honolulu International Airport, Lihue Airport, Kona International Airport at Keahole, and Kahului Airport.Southwest didn't say when the flights would begin service to the islands, prices for flights, or from which airports flights would depart from on the U.S. mainland.A Hawaii-specific page on Southwest's website has since gone live as well.Southwest is reportedly waiting for federal regulatory approvals as certification is required for flights over long distances of water, multiple outlets reported. Extra pilot training and stringent maintenance and replacement of parts are required for flights making such a trip. The news comes on the heels of the airlines said ticket sales have dipped in the wake of a fatal accident aboard a Southwest flight earlier this month. 991

[Breaking news update, published at 11:03 a.m. ET]Hurricane Lane has weakened to a Category 4 storm, though it is forecast to remain a dangerous hurricane as it draws closer to the Hawaiian Islands, the Central Pacific Hurricane Center says.[Original story, published at 8:04 a.m. ET]Hurricane Lane has strengthened into a Category 5 storm as it rolls toward Hawaii -- just two weeks after Hurricane Hector passed the islands.Hurricanes rarely make landfall in Hawaii, as the Central Pacific does not see as many storms as the Atlantic or Eastern Pacific, and the Hawaiian Islands present a small target in the vast Pacific Ocean.Only four named storms -- two hurricanes and two tropical storms -- have made landfall in Hawaii since 1959. Even close calls are somewhat rare, with Hawaii getting a named storm within 60 miles of its coastline about once every four years on average. 889

A 20-year-old man with Down syndrome was carrying a toy gun when he was shot dead by Swedish police in Stockholm on Thursday, according to CNN affiliate Expressen.Eric Torell was diagnosed with both autism and Down syndrome and could not verbally communicate, his mother told Expressen.Torell's family reported him missing after he ran away from home, something he had been known to do before. He had a plastic toy gun with him, which "looked a little like a submachine gun" and was given to him as a gift, said his mother, Katarina S?derberg.Early Thursday morning, the police received reports of a person with a gun in the Vasastan district. After arriving on the scene, they shouted at Torell to "lay down his weapon and lie on the ground," an eyewitness told Expressen.Police officers are then believed to have fired at Torell, according to Expressen. Torell was taken to the hospital, but could not be saved. When S?derberg was first notified of her son's death, she said: "There's got to be a mix-up."She was "totally, totally devastated," she told reporters in her home, as she showed them photos of Torell. "I couldn't understand that it was true, I still can't believe that it is true."She and Eric's older sister, Elsa, were nearly paralyzed by the news, S?derberg said. Why, she asked, did the police officers have to shoot? And why did it have to be a fatal shot, instead of one to the leg?"Even if he made a mistake, even if he went outside with a pistol thing, a toy gun, do they have to shoot him dead because of that? It was light outside," his mother said."You can see a mile away that he's got Down syndrome. It can't be missed," she said. "A 'threatening man'? He's like a 3-year-old."The prosecutor's office is investigating possible police misconduct, Expressen reported.The-CNN-Wire 1811

(KGTV) — Stone Brewery's move on Berlin may have been too much, too soon. The San Diego-based brewery has decided to sell their Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens – Berlin facility to Brewdog, a Scottish craft brewer that owns and operates a series of pubs around the world. The decision was attributed to the cost of maintaining the 1901 gasworks property used as Stone's facility, as well as Germany's construction industry, Stone's co-founder Greg Koch wrote on the company's blog.. RELATED: Judge swats Stone Brewing's injunction, says 'strong' case against MillerCoors"To feed a beast like Stone Berlin, we needed volume. The sheer cost of building and maintaining Stone Berlin to our standards didn’t let us grow it slowly," Koch wrote on the post titled, "Farewell Stone Brewing Berlin: Too Big, Too Bold, Too Soon." He went on to say, "the truth is, the construction industry in Berlin is broken. Yes, there’s a lot of bureaucracy. The U.S. has more than a bit of that, so we were prepared for it."And also in part to German taste buds."Amazing beer is being brewed by amazing brewers all over the country. Unfortunately, according to the stats, most Germans are still ignoring these wonderful beers and buying the cheap stuff," Koch wrote.RELATED: Three San Diego breweries named to top craft breweries list — because of courseThe brewery said it will continue to distribute its beer throughout Germany, after making many "converts" in Europe. Some Stone beers will still be brewed at the Berlin location. The facility, however, will be under Brewdog."We invested a significant portion of a decade and significant millions building Stone Berlin. And it didn’t work out. These things hurt and these things happen. This one happened. And this one hurts a lot," Koch wrote. 1791
