(KGTV) – Escondido Police have released bodycam footage of an officer-involved shooting that left one man hospitalized last month.EPD says the incident started with a 911 call about a restraining order violation at about 3:30 a.m. on Broadway near Washington Avenue on June 19. In the call, a woman said her former husband, 44-year-old Rosendo Sandoval Quezada, was at her home and she identified his vehicle.Officers were initially called to a home in the 300 block of Park Avenue, but an officer spotted Quezada's reported vehicle near Broadway, where he pulled him over.The full incident video can be viewed here.Police say Quezada exited his vehicle holding a 3-foot-long crowbar and ran toward the officer, identified as "Officer Hamilton." The officer said Quezada was yelling something similar to "just kill me, I want to die" as he charged him.Police say the officer continued to tell Quezada to stop before he fired one round from his service weapon when he came within a few feet of him. Quezada reportedly paused and continued toward the officer, police say.The officer attempted to fire a second round, but his gun malfunctioned, according to police. ENCINITAS, Calif., (KGTV)— It has been almost three weeks since a fire destroyed several small shops in Encinitas. One of the business owners who lost it all is now getting a lot of support from his local community. In a blink of an eye, Greg Cali's life work was destroyed."One thing's for sure, it's been the most stressful period of my life," Cali said. His gallery was called "The Cali Life." It featured works by Cali and several other local artists. The blaze on September 30, 2019, burned it all to the ground. All except for one thing."The sign up over the building was the only thing I got," Cali said.That sign now has a new home inside of Pandora's Pizza restaurant."Art and pizza. Those are two of my favorite things on earth," he laughed. Two days before the fire, Cali sent out invitations to his gallery's one-year anniversary party. But with no gallery and no salvageable artwork, it was going to be canceled. That was, until Craig Leslie, Pandora's Pizza owner, reached out. Some of Cali's artwork was already hanging inside Pandora's Pizza, so Leslie offered to host the gallery party at the restaurant, located just two blocks away. "We're here to support him," Leslie said. "We're here to support other artists in the community. ENCINITAS (CNS) - At least one person was killed in a three-vehicle crash on the northbound San Diego (5) Freeway in Encinitas Saturday morning that left one of the vehicles completely destroyed.The crash was reported near Manchester Avenue at 2:35 a.m. and involved a Toyota Corolla, a Cadillac Escalade and a third dark-colored vehicle that was completely destroyed, according to the California Highway Patrol.Details of what led up to the crash were not available.All northbound lanes of the freeway just south of Manchester Avenue were closed until further notice. 576

ESCONDIDO (KGTV) -- Escondido police arrested a man with prior criminal convictions Thursday after they found him passed out in his vehicle wearing a ballistic vest and loaded rifle magazines in his front passenger seat. He also had other weapons and police gear he'd allegedly stolen from a law enforcement officer in San Diego, authorities said.According to a release from Escondido Police Department, officers found the man after a caller reported him passed out around 1:10 a.m. outside the 7-Eleven on West Ninth Avenue. The caller said the man was likely under the influence of drugs and did not respond to attempts at waking him.When officers arrived on scene, they recognized the man as 30-year-old Thomas Vann, who has prior criminal convictions. He was wearing a ballistic vest with loaded rifle magazines that were "plainly visible" on the front passenger seat.Officers were able to wake Vann and detain him. They searched his vehicle and found four fully loaded rifle magazines, 126 rounds of rifle and shotgun ammunition, and stolen police gear, including a tactical vest, a duty belt, a medical kit, and handcuffs. Officers determined the police gear was stolen Wednesday from a law enforcement officer in San Diego. They also found 392 grams of methamphetamine and 78 grams of heroin.Vann was arrested and booked into the Vista Detention Facility on numerous drugs, weapons, and stolen property charges. 1426
