Tucson Police's Operation Division South Motor Squad took a different and non-traditional approach to help raise awareness for safe driving on Thursday.According to the department, mannequins were placed at different intersections around Tucson in an effort to lower collision statistics and urge drivers to pay better attention to their driving and what is around them. The mannequins were dressed like officers and placed in and around police vehicles near intersections that are or have been known for vehicle crashes.This is the first time TPD has utilized this method by using mannequins.Tucson Police said drivers can expect to see the mannequins out again Aug. 21 but the location has yet to be determined.  732

TUCSON, Ariz. — A trip to Little Anthony’s Diner is a trip back in time. This family-owned restaurant has been serving up tasty treats, with a side of nostalgia, for the past 43 years.“I grew up loving it. My family grew up loving it. It’s a Tucson staple,” said Heather Stricker, a manager at the restaurant and its attached theater, The Gaslight Theater.However, COVID-19 threatened to put this neighborhood treasure out of business. “Right from the start, it impacted us so huge that it was almost devastating,” said Stricker. “Every day you wake up and you see the news: another restaurant or three restaurants closing in our area. It's scary.”A lot of business was lost after months of restrictions, so Stricker knew she’d have to get creative to save the place special to her and so many others.“I think that if we hadn't pivoted, we would have been in real trouble and very quickly,” said Stricker.So, they took a page from history, hoping it would protect the legacy they’ve built, especially through the winter months ahead. Little Anthony’s revived the carhop in hopes of revving up their business.“You pull up into our parking lot, and we have a server who is masked and gloved come out, take your order and deliver your food right to the car,” said Stricker.It’s a safe way to keep customers coming in without stepping into the restaurant.“It’s really nice that we can actually do this without so much worry about what might happen while we're out,” said customer Jen DeCicco. “We're right beside our own car, but yet we have our own space we can be together and enjoy this concert we’ve been dying to see.”The concerts are just one more way the restaurant is hoping to keep their drive-in full while keeping people safely distanced.When it gets colder and sitting outside is no longer an option, the live music plays through your car.“There's always going to be an option no matter how cold it gets,” said Stricker. “And we've had some cold nights, and we made it through, and everybody had a great time. So, we're excited. We're excited to keep going."The customers are excited for a brief escape from a year of loneliness."Having all these people around us, it feels a little bit like a touch of normalcy,” said Jen DeCicco.“I have never done anything like this before. I think it's really cool,” said Jude DeCicco.For regular diners and car enthusiasts Sue and Robert Ellison, this new experience brings their favorite era back to life.“I would come to places like this with my parents. I remember me and my sister sitting in the back seat and ordering,” said Robert Ellison. “It's a nice flashback to a fun time.”“For me, it's fun to experience something I never lived through before,” said Sue Ellison.Because in this time, where the future is so uncertain, looking back could just be the way to move forward.“We’ve decided we're not going to quit. We're not going to give up,” said Stricker. “No matter how long this takes, we are in it for the long haul. Tropical Storm Isaias spawned tornadoes and dumped rain along the U.S. East Coast on Tuesday after making landfall as a hurricane in North Carolina, where it smashed boats together and caused floods and fires that displaced dozens of people. Two hundred million dollars – that's how much money Monat Global says it made selling hair care products in 2017 through multi-level marketing.YouTube videos show the family behind Monat in mansions and driving fancy cars — but an ongoing class action lawsuit claims the company is nothing more than a pyramid scheme.Three recently filed class action lawsuits accuse Monat of fraud and deception."An inherent design and/or manufacturing defect in Monat hair care products causes significant hair loss and scalp irritation to many consumers," one lawsuit alleges."I'm devastated with what my hair looks like right now," said Heather Fox, a Monat customer in Phoenix."I had to cut off my hair," said Monat Market Partner Erin Ostby.Both women say Monat did them more damage than good."My dad used to always say I was like Samson from the Bible – I got my power from my hair. So it was really upsetting and I couldn't do that to someone else," said Ostby, who recently stopped selling Monat.CLICK TO SEE THE ORIGINAL COMPLAINTSThe U.S. Food and Drug Administration has received and is in the process of assessing 187 adverse event reports related to Monat products. It's not going to cause this kind of reaction," Monat Spokesperson Gene Grabowski said in a phone interview.But the company's repeated response to BBB complaints states that, "although Monat's ingredients are naturally-based, safe, pure and sustainable, we understand that some may experience a reaction and should discontinue use."The class action lawsuits claim the products use numerous "harsh chemicals" and "known human allergens."  One controversial ingredient the suit highlights is Capixyl – containing red clover – which some say should be on a warning label."Yes, there should be a warning label, but only if the amount was higher," Grabowski said.The University of Maryland Medical Center says women with a history of breast cancer should avoid red clover due to its estrogen-like effects in the body. It also says red clover may interfere with the liver's ability to process some drugs."The amount of red clover used (red clover extract) is so small that it would have no effect," said Grabowski.According to the FDA, cosmetic companies are responsible for ensuring the safety of their own products, which in most cases don't require government approval before they go on the market."We do tests before we send them to market and we know they're safe," said Grabowski. "I mean, those aren't clinical tests."Monat's website shows the clinical tests they did utilized one active ingredient per study.As the class action lawsuits were recently filed, Monat has not yet responded to the claims in court.    3161
