SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A car crashed through a parking garage wall and dangled from a building Friday night.Emergency crews responded to the Harbor Club parking structure before 7 p.m.Firefighters say the driver of the White Lexus was a woman in her sixties. They say her foot got stuck under the brake pedal and she was unable to stop.Shortly after the accident authorities were able to pull the car back into the building. The driver was not hurt.A structural engineer was called to the scene and is assessing the damage to the building. 558

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A College Area homeowner got a huge shock when he returned home from a camping trip: The presence of some uninvited guests.Bill Yogerst left Saturday at 12 p.m. from his home on Catoctin Drive. On Monday morning, he got a call from his roommate, who had also been out of town, telling him the grates on the outside of the granny flat had been damaged.     Inside the house, there was one disturbing discovery after another.    "There was a trail of dirt in the shower. They had urinated on the toilet. He also found shoes and some sweatpants in his hamper that didn't belong to him. Also throughout the house were odd shrines of carefully positioned, mismatched household objects."That is skin-crawling creepy," said Yogerst.The feeling didn't go away when he reached the bedroom."I looked at my bed and it wasn't made. Sheets were pulled down and the pillows rearranged and stacked ... realized they were sleeping in my bed ... a creepy feeling of violation," said Yogerst.The intruders in this twisted Goldilocks tale: A homeless couple in their 20s. Neighbors spotted them in the driveway on Sunday. Yogerst says they found his hidden spare key and walked right in."It was like a Holiday Inn. They were enjoying their stay," said Yogerst.Yogerst says the presence of homeless in the area has increased in the past two years."Some of the churches, God bless them, do feed them, but that does bring them in," said Yogerst.Yogerst says only a few items were taken, including loose change, toiletries, and prescription medication. One of the suspects has a distinct description: A transient African-American woman, about 5-foot 5-inches tall, with bright orange hair. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A company with offices in Oceanside released data Friday supporting its drug remdesivir is helping severely ill COVID-19 patients recover.The data released by Gilead, who produces remdesivir, states there was a 62% reduction in risk of death, compared to patients who weren't given the drug, and 74% of remdesivir treated patients recovered by Day 14.Remdesivir was originally created to fight Ebola, a similar virus to COVID-19.Troy Kahle was diagnosed with COVID-19 and said he's alive today because of Kaiser Permanente doctors, nurses and remdesivir.He said he was admitted to the hospital March 14, and ended up in a coma for 12 days."The first memory I have is waking up with my hands strapped to the gurney and a tube down my throat," Kahle said he thought he was going to die and wishes no one to face what still haunts him.Friday he celebrated three months out of the hospital as a survivor of COVID-19.While the drug has helped people like Kahle, medical experts are wary."It's not a magic bullet," Molecular Biology Professor at UC San Diego Stephen Hedrick, PhD. said.He said the drug slows down the virus."It's going to decrease the severity of the symptoms of the viral infection, but it doesn't necessarily make you well overnight," he said comparing it to an antibiotic.This is because while the drug works to stop the virus from replicating, COVID-19 can counter it, "Coronaviruses, almost uniquely among RNA viruses, have an error correction capability."Survivors like Kahle, while thankful to be out of the hospital, aren't back to 100%."I get easily winded if I overexert myself, occasionally I'll get dizzy for no reason, I have foot pain when I wake up," Kahle said.Hedrick said he is optimistic, adding the drug is a good jumping off point to create a drug more suited to coronavirus, or a vaccine.In the mean-time both Kahle and Hedrick ask that we all wear our masks."If we all work together we can get to the other side of this pandemic," Kahle said.Gilead said they are ramping up supplies, "we have increased supply nearly 40-fold since January and our goal is to produce more than 2 million treatment courses by year-end and several million in 2021, if required."Gilead cautions that rigorous clinical trials are needed to confirm the latest data. 2303

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 63-year-old man was shot several times during an argument in San Diego’s Jamacha-Lomita neighborhood Friday afternoon.Police say the shooting happened on the 7900 block of Gribble Street just before 4 p.m.According to police, the victim and suspect got into an argument when the 63-year-old was shot three times. The man was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Bankers Hill man returned home to a knife-wielding man in his kitchen, leading to a frantic dash out of the neighborhood."I heard my neighbor pull up. I'm a light sleeper. Within a couple minutes, I heard sirens coming from every direction," said Tom.Tom, who asked us not to identify him, says two Sundays ago before 1 a.m., surveillance cameras showed his neighbor parking in front of his home. In the video, the homeowner is seen walking to his front door. An outdoor light turns off, and suddenly, another light comes on. Tom says that's when his neighbor encountered a stranger in his kitchen."He came home and found the guy standing at his back door with a bottle of alcohol from his cabinet, and a knife from his butcher block. He backed off a bit and called police," said Tom.The intruder ran out the back. He is then seen making his way to the front of the home, across the street and right to Tom's front door."He tries to get into my house. It's locked so he takes off down the street," said Tom. Tom says a man fitting the same description has been spotted stealing bikes and casing homes in the area. As for the recent break-in, Tom says it's not clear how the man got in, but video of the motion-activated lights suggest he was in the home for nearly an hour."It's more than a violation. You start to lose your sense of security, and that's the worst part of it," said Tom.The intruder is described as a white male, between 20 and 30 years old, 5’6"-5’8", 155 lbs, with tattoos on both forearms.
