Thousands of youth sporting events were canceled this spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic.It's tough enough that kids are missing a whole season of baseball or soccer. But now, soccer moms and dads everywhere are growing frustrated.Many paid hundreds of dollars for their kids to participate in spring soccer leagues that ended up canceled, and refunds are turning out to be elusive. Some families paid over ,000 for two children to join private clubs.One weekend of play, 0 goneJulie Hooper is the mother of a third-grader who only got to play one weekend before the season was shut down."For the spring soccer league, we paid 5," she said.When parents called the head coaches after the cancellation, they did not get what they had hoped."We asked where our money is, and they are keeping all of it and told us we get a 10% discount if we sign up for next season," she said.Hooper said she would understand had they at least continued training, but there have been no tournaments, games or practices, and the club still has the parents' money."I've heard from other teams, other clubs, that they would get money back from tournaments not played," she said.Where is the money?But many clubs are not giving refunds. News reports and Facebook complaints show soccer parents nationwide are asking where the money has gone.Some teams say they prepaid for tournaments and are having problems getting those deposits back from larger sporting organizations. Others say much of the money went to field maintenance and insurance, and those funds are gone for good.Hooper said she doesn't expect a full refund, but "to pay 5 and get so little, it just seems like we should get something back. (KGTV) -- After gunning down a group of workers standing at the door at Borderline Bar & Grill country music bar, Ian David Long paused a moment to post a chilling message on social media before resuming his killing spree."It's too bad I won't get to see all the illogical and pathetic reasons people will put in my mouth as to why I did it. There have been plenty of presidential elections when Nebraska hasn't cross too many minds. After all, it's a relatively conservative state where President Donald Trump won by 25 points in 2016. But this election, Democrats aren't forgetting about Nebraska, or more specifically, Omaha. DOING THINGS DIFFERENTLY Nebraska and Maine are the two states that award their Electoral College votes based off results in individual congressional districts. For instance, in 2008, John McCain and Barack Obama both received Electoral College votes from Nebraska. In Nebraska, two Electoral College votes goes to the statewide winner and one Electoral College vote goes to the winner in each of the state's three congressional districts. A total of five Electoral College votes is at stake. While Trump will again carry the statewide vote and two of the state's congressional districts, it is unclear what will happen in the 2nd Congressional District, which includes Omaha, Nebraska. Democrats believe there is a chance. "For whatever the reason, there are a lot of Democrats and independents saying they are going to vote for Biden," Bob Kerrey, the former Democratic governor and U.S. Senator from Nebraska, said. Republicans aren't conceding by any stretch, although they acknowledge it will be close. "We have more people than ever with boots on the ground knocking on doors," Theresa Thibodeau, chair of the Douglas County GOP, which includes Omaha, said. Three explosions that occurred when people picked up packages outside their residences appear to be connected, Austin, Texas, city Police Chief Brian Manley said Monday at a news conference.A Monday morning explosion killed a 17-year-old African-American boy and also injured a woman at the house. A second Monday explosion left a 75-year-old woman in critical condition, the chief said. A March 2 blast killed a 39-year-old African-American man.All the explosions occurred when people who lived at the residences went outside and picked up packages, Manley said. The packages were not delivered by the postal service or delivery services like UPS or FedEx, he said."The evidence makes us believe these incidents are related," he said, saying investigators have not come up with a motive or whether anybody has claimed responsibility. It's not known if the victims knew each other or if they were targeted, he said.Police also have not decided if these are hate crimes, but said that's a real possibility of the victims' races."We're not ruling anything out at this point," he said. "We're willing to investigate any avenue."Authorities have only identified one victim. Anthony Stephan House, 39, died from injuries in the March 2 explosion, police said.
