(KGTV) — A 4.3-magnitude earthquake struck the Searles Valley area of San Bernadino County late Sunday.The quake was recorded at about 9:15 p.m. about 14 miles outside of Ridgecrest, Calif., according to the USGS. No injuries or damages were immediately reported.According to the USGS' "Did You Feel It?" map, not San Diego County responses were submitted.Last week, a 5.5-magnitude earthquake was reported in the same region outside Ridgecrest. Aside from last week's tremor, the last major earthquakes to hit near Ridgecrest occurred on July 4 and 5, 2019, when 6.4- and 7.1-magnitude earthquakes jostled the region.Location of Sunday's quake: 653

(KGTV) - A group of San Diego lawmakers, water agencies and business leaders are joining forces in opposition of a possible new state tax on tap water.Under the proposed State Senate Bill 623, Californians would see an additional 95 cents per month on their water bills.SB623 is one of two articles of legislation being discussed by state lawmakers that could see residents’ water bills go up by more than per month.The goal of the tax would be to clean polluted groundwater around the state, particularly agricultural areas where water is considered undrinkable -- with arsenic, lead and nitrate levels that have been compared to Flint, Michigan’s crisis.State Sen. Bill Monning (D-Carmel), who authored the bill, said SB623 "will establish the Safe and Affordable Drinking Water Fund to provide an ongoing source of funding to finance water improvement projects throughout California.Approximately 300 water systems in California currently have pollutant violations, such as arsenic, lead, nitrates, and uranium that have been linked to nausea and vomiting, cancer, reduced mental functioning in children, nervous system decline, miscarriages, and numerous other health issues.Support of the fund will come from a fertilizer mill fee, a fee on dairies, and a fee assessed on water bills of no more than a month per household, and is anticipated to generate 0 million a year. Low-income rate exemptions are provided for households under 200% of the federal poverty level."Numerous agricultural groups and environmental organizations have come out in support of SB623, but many, including the San Diego County Taxpayers Association and other local groups, have said the bill is “counterproductive because it will make it harder for low-income residents to afford this necessity. (CNN) -- Godspeed!A historic cathedral in England has installed a giant indoor fairground slide, supposedly so that visitors can see its roof up close.The 50-foot-high ride, known in Britain as a helter-skelter, was unveiled on Thursday at Norwich Cathedral in eastern England and will be open to the public to enjoy for 10 days.The church, completed in 1145, insists the initiative is no gimmick -- in fact, a clergyman says the idea came to him while he was visiting the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican."I had the slightly risky thought of, 'I know this is amazing, but actually the ceiling at Norwich Cathedral is every bit as wonderful,'" Reverend Canon Andy Bryant told the Press Association news agency."We have one of the greatest collections of medieval roof bosses anywhere in northern Europe. The trouble is they are so high up that most people never get a chance to really appreciate them.""And so was born the idea -- could we get people up higher to these roof bosses and so appreciate that they are exquisite art as they are the most beautiful pieces of stone carving but also the story that's captured within them, which is the story of the Bible."The installation, set up in front of a large stained glass window, is part of a program called "Seeing It Differently."It follows a similar move by Rochester Cathedral, which unveiled a mini golf course in its central area last month -- and comes as churches across the UK struggle to stem a decline in attendance.In a post on the cathedral's website, Bryant admitted that the idea could prove controversial with churchgoers."I get why for some the image of a giant helter-skelter sitting in this great Nave feels slightly shocking," he wrote. (KGTV) — Firefighters battled a vegetation fire north of Fallbrook Saturday afternoon.Cal Fire firefighters reported the brush fire near the intersection of Deluz Rd. and Santa Margarita Trail in the Deluz area, north of Fallbrook.Dubbed the Santa Fire, the blaze was at 6 acres and 0% contained just before 2 p.m. Fire crews said there was no immediate structure threat in the area. Just before 2:30 p.m., Cal Fire reported that forward rate had been stopped and crews would remain on scene "to mop-up and build containment line."It's not clear how the fire began. 573
