CHINO HILLS, Calif. (KGTV) -- Fire officials say a brush fire that destroyed a two-story mansion in Chino Hills Monday may have been sparked by a bird, according to KABC. According to Chino Valley Fire, the blaze was caused by a large bird striking high-voltage power lines. The department says the bird then caught fire and fell to the ground, igniting the grass. The tweet went on to say that fire officials and SoCal Edison representatives inspected the power pole and found that there was no transformer installed on the pole as initially reported. No evacuations were ordered and no injuries reported. The blaze started near Chino Hills Parkway and Falling Star Lane just before 2 p.m., KABC reports. 715

(KGTV) -- A carjacking and pursuit led to a deadly officer-involved shooting in Chula Vista Monday evening.According to Chula Vista police, the incident happened around 5:30 p.m. on the 900 block of Rutgers Avenue.Police say the incident began when officers spotted a suspect wanted for attempted murder and observed him as he carjacked a blue pickup truck at gunpoint near Main Street and Maxwell Road.The suspect, later identified as 33-year-old David Angulo, was a documented gang member wanted in connection with three shootings in the area and was considered a danger to the community by police.According to police, officers tried to conduct a traffic stop, but instead the suspect led officers on a chase into eastern Chula Vista. On Rutgers Avenue at Otay Lakes Road, the pickup truck crashed into a vehicle with a person inside. That individual was taken to the hospital with injuries believed to be serious.Following the crash, police say the suspect got out of the wreckage and tried to enter a house with a family inside. At some point, gunfire was exchanged between the suspect and officers. "It appears Mr. Angulo turned back to the officers. It's my understanding he pointed a weapon at the officers," Chula Vista police Lt. Dan Peak said. "It does appear some shots were fired at the officers and the officers returned fire."Peak added they're still investigating who fired the first shot.Chula Vista police say three officers fired their weapons, fatally injuring the suspect. Peak says medical aid was given to the suspect, but he died at the scene.The officers involved in the shooting haven't been identified at this time. These days, Yolanda Brown doesn't let Zubian, a year-and-a-half old Maltese, stray too far. Just three weeks ago, he was the youngest in a happy Maltese family of four. Now he's the only one left."Cried for days. It hurts. It hurts a lot," said Brown.The first tears came early this month. Brown rents a home on Del Mar Avenue and her four dogs were required to stay in her fenced backyard. One morning, 2-year-old Zoey vanished. "Checked all the gates and they were shut. Thought it may have been a predator," said Brown. A week later, Zoey's mom, 5-year-old Zivah, disappeared from the same yard."Just distraught, wondering what could have happened to them," said Brown.About 10 days later, Brown decided to keep Zubian and his 5-year-old dad Zeus tied up as a precaution. "One morning, as I came out, Zeus was gone and so was the leash. Zubian standing there by himself," said Brown.For Brown, it was too much to bear. Nearby, she found her fence damaged. A chair - moved from the pool area - was now propped up against the fence. She realized a thief had grabbed all of her dogs."Very cold-hearted people that would so something like that," said Brown.If sold, the stolen dogs could fetch several thousand dollars each. "They are priceless to me. They are members of my family," said Brown.Brown fixed up the fence and moved the chair back. CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A man who allegedly stabbed and seriously injured another man with a screwdriver during a San Ysidro street robbery pleaded not guilty Friday to attempted murder, robbery and vandalism charges.Eduardo Hernandez Oliveros, 22, is accused of robbing the victim just before 7:30 a.m. Sept. 17 in the 600 block of East San Ysidro Boulevard.Police said the victim was using his cell phone when Oliveros confronted him on the street and asked to use the phone. Before the victim could react, Oliveros allegedly snatched the phone out of his hand and took off.Deputy District Attorney Daniel Shim alleged the victim chased Oliveros down and a "physical struggle" ensued, culminating in the defendant stabbing the victim in the face and neck with a screwdriver.Bystanders called police, who responded and arrested Oliveros, who faces more than 25 years in state prison if convicted of all charges, according to the prosecutor.The victim, whose name was not released, was hospitalized with serious injuries, according to the San Diego Police Department, which alleged that Oliveros "admitted he was trying to kill the victim."Oliveros has a prior attempted murder conviction for stomping on his girlfriend's head, stabbing her in the leg and telling her he was going to kill her, according to Shim. He was found guilty in 2015 in Riverside County, according to the criminal complaint.Bail was set at million for Oliveros, who is due back in court Oct. 14 for a readiness conference. 1503
