SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A tow truck driver helped San Diego Police capture a man who the driver said was starting a fire Thursday along Interstate 15 in central San Diego.Police said the tow truck driver reported the man near the 15 and 94 freeways in Mount Hope about 1 p.m.Officers handcuffed the man and placed him inside a patrol car, but he managed to get out of his restraints. Police said he fought back and they removed him from the car to restrain him again.“The gentleman attempted to bite two of the officers on their hands as they were attempting to place him in the body wrap system,” said SDPD Sgt. Nathan Chambers.Arson investigators who responded to the fire scene found charred wood and grass. There was no evidence of a large fire.10News asked police if the man is connected to other recent fires in the area but officers said that has not been determined. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A semi-truck carrying boxes of grapes caught fire as it traveled down Interstate 8 in El Cajon Monday morning.Authorities received reports of a semi-truck on fire on westbound I-8 just near dunbar lane shortly after 12:30 a.m.Firefighters arrived to put the fire out and attempted to save the shipments of grapes, but it was a total lost.California Highway Patrol officials said the truck’s driver escaped unharmed.The cause of the fire is under investigation. 487

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego Police officer and another person were struck by a vehicle along a major Midway District roadway Thursday morning.The officer was responding to a vandalism call at about 4:30 a.m. in the 2900 block of Midway Drive at Rosecrans Street, according to police.The officer was outside of his patrol vehicle and working to detain a suspect when both were struck by a passing SUV. Witnesses say the officer had the suspect pinned down when they were hit."The suspect ran from the officers. While taking the suspect into custody in the street, both were stuck by an oncoming vehicle," SDPD said via a Tweet.The officer is in serious but stable condition. The unidentified officer was spotted on a gurney and being lifted into an ambulance while giving the thumbs up sign.
