SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County public health officials added two more church locations to a public health advisory over COVID-19 outbreaks issued last week.Officials asked church-goers who attended indoor services and events at Awaken Church's 1760 Descanso Avenue (San Marcos) and 861 Showroom Place (Chula Vista) locations between Nov. 15 and 22 to quarantine for 14 days following COVID-19 outbreaks. On Nov. 28, the county asked indoor service and event attendees at Awaken Church's 7620 Balboa Ave. location to quarantine after an outbreak.RELATED:San Diego church continues inside after outbreak, cease & desist orders and not cooperating with countyCounty asks Kearny Mesa church attendees to quarantine after COVID-19 outbreak"All of those who attended services at any of the three locations during the specified times should also be tested for COVID-19," the county's release on Wednesday said.So far, the county says the three outbreaks have totaled 64 coronavirus cases.Wednesday, county Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said Awaken Church has not been working with the county despite their efforts."For the overwhelming majority of religious services out there and faith communities who are acting responsibly, we say thank you," Fletcher said during a Wednesday press conference on COVID-19 in the region. "For other entities that have chosen to act irresponsibly, entities in particular like the Awaken Church where we have been forced to have to share outbreak information because of their lack of cooperation and notifying members of their congregation about cases there, we continue to implore the public to recognize the very real danger of indoor religious services."Following the initial announcements of an outbreak, the church continued to hold indoor services. The church has received multiple cease-and-desist orders from the county. The church's website says it has moved Wednesday services in San Diego online through December. Sunday services on the church's website did not appear to be changed. The church also has locations in El Cajon and Carlsbad.Officials advised members of the church to wear face coverings and practice social distancing, and to avoid large gatherings.Generally, the county does not reveal the locations of community outbreaks, which are three or more COVID-19 cases from different households within two weeks at one location. The county has done so in this case because "public health has been unable to identify and notify all of those potentially exposed." 2516

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego City leaders are deciding where to spend money in the next fiscal year. Wednesday’s meeting was the first step in the budget for the year. 10News spoke with Barbara Bry just before the meeting. “All nine of us have submitted our budget priorities. What’s interesting is there’s a lot of consensus among all of us as to how much the city should be allocating its funding," Bry said. The latest 10News-Union-Tribune polls shows the top issue as homelessness. It’s one of the issues Bry says will receive major support in next yea’s budget. Wednesday, the budget committee reviewed and adopted a set of funding priorities for what will be a priority for funding in the next fiscal year. The committee’s list is alphabetical at this point, so the issues aren’t ranked by importance. The list does, however, reflect what our poll uncovered: climate action, homelessness, parks and recreation facilities, public safety and sidewalk and street repairs are all important issues. As for our poll, homelessness and affordable housing came out on top at 21 and 20 percent respectively. Close behind is road repairs and further down the line, climate change, the Convention Center and mass transit. 10News asked Bry how the process will proceed. “The council will then discuss the priorities as a whole, then Mayor in April, then budget hearings in May.” 1380

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County schools are one step closer to bringing students back to campus. If we get off the state’s watchlist Friday, kids would be allowed back in-person in as soon as two weeks. But, some districts tell ABC 10News they would still need more time.Supervisor Nathan Fletcher hinted at a victory for the county Thursday afternoon.“Yesterday we were below the state guidance, today we’re below the state guidance,” said Fletcher. “Tomorrow if we’re below the state guidance that will remove us from the state monitoring list.”RELATED: San Diego County case rate under watch list threshold for second straight dayThose metrics are based on having fewer than 100 cases per 100,000 residents over two weeks. If we can stay off the watch list for 14 days in a row after being removed from the state's list, students will be allowed back on school campuses. But, that doesn’t mean it will happen right away.“All of us have been watching those numbers,” said Theresa Kemper, Superintendent at Grossmont Union High School District. “When it finally went under 100, there’s a celebration because we look forward to getting kids back.”RELATED: Private school in Spring Valley to reopen with in-person learningKemper says they plan to give parents and teachers a two-week notice before they would return in-person.“Classrooms are already ready to go, but it’s all the other services we provide,” said Kemper. “Are the buses ready to go? Food service?”For Cajon Valley Union Schools, the district says they successfully welcomed 6,000 students to 27 of their campuses for summer programs. Social distancing and mask requirements were in place. They tell us over the six-week period they did not have a single case of COVID-19.Superintendent David Miyashiro says even if the county can welcome students back, they would still need time to prepare.“To say we’d be able to open right away, I don’t feel comfortable with that,” said Miyashiro. “The short answer is as soon as possible starting with our most vulnerable students.”San Diego Unified says they’re using their own criteria that goes beyond the state standards. It calls for rigorous contact tracing before they’ll reopen in-person.Escondido Union High School District starts a fully virtual school year on Aug. 25. They tell ABC 10News they’ll continue online learning through the first grading period that ends on Sept. 25. They say they’ll reassess current conditions after that. 2459

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police released a composite sketch Tuesday in the search for a man suspected of trying to kidnap a 3-year-old girl in the Morena area. The incident happened Sunday about 4:30 p.m. as the girl’s mother was taking her daughter for a walk in her wagon on Savannah Street at Buenos Avenue, police said. The area is residential and two blocks away from busy Morena Boulevard. A man parked his sedan but left the engine running, then approached the mother and child from behind, according to investigators. The man tried to grab the girl from the wagon but her mother heard her struggle. Polic

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Residents may be seeing Uber delivery drones in San Diego's skies as soon as this year.Uber Elevate, Uber's drone and air transportation leg, announced this week during the Forbes’ 30 under 30 Summit that the company will begin testing Uber Eats delivery drones in summer 2020. The company added, though, that delivery service using partner drone operators could come in the coming months.A rendering of the Uber Eats drone shows six-rotors will allow the drone to take off and land vertically, with the ability to rotate to provide more lift and speed. The drone is designed to carry a meal for two people.Uber Elevate says the drone is designed to travel a total of 18 miles or 12 miles round-trip. The company says the drone is equipped to cruise below 400 feet and comply with existing regulations to operate the aircraft. The company estimates the drone can perform a delivery in eight minutes, including time to load and unload. The company says the design has passed the design review phase and is expected to fly before the end of the year. 1073
