RANCHO PENASQUITOS -- A group of residents in Rancho Pe?asquitos is sounding the alarm about a trio of dense developments that could add 1,500 housing units within 1.5 miles of each other.The group, called PQ-NE Action, notes the northwest part of Rancho Pe?asquitos only has one road in and out. They are raising concerns that the road could not handle the influx in the case of an emergency, such as a wildfire evacuation. "We fully understand things are going to change, but not change to a point where the neighborhood becomes threatened from a safety standpoint," said Junaid Razvi, a 40-year resident and spokesman for the group. RANCHO PENASQUITOS (KGTV) - Teens playing basketball in Rancho Penasquitos said they were robbed Saturday night. Police said during the pursuit of a car that matched the description, it crashed and rolled onto the roof.One suspect was injured from the crash as he was not wearing a seatbelt. He was trapped in the car and arrested.Police say two other suspects, identified as a black man in his 20s and a Hispanic man in his early 20s fled the vehicle.K9s searched the area for the suspects.Ed Solis, the father of one of the boys who was robbed, said it was his son's 18th birthday and they were celebrating at home.Toward the end of the party, the guys wanted to play basketball at Views West Park. They left their belongings in a pile and noticed a group of men stealing their wallets and phones.The teens went after the attempted robbers and were able to catch one. Solis said one of the men came back and threatened the boys, saying he had a gun and would "smoke them."The boys let the man go and then called Solis about the robbery. He rushed over, and found all the boys were safe and unharmed, but shaken.Officers caught up with the suspect vehicle at 14500 Penasquitos Drive where it flipped.Some of the boys got their items back, while others did not. 1319

RANDLEMAN, NC (WGHP) -- Police found a malnourished 5-year-old girl locked in a small closet under a stairway at a home in Randleman, according to a press release.On Sept. 12, Randleman police conducted a welfare check for a child at a home in the 200 block of Back Street. Officers were told the child was being physically and mentally abused.Officers went to the home in an effort to locate the little girl. Upon arrival, they found no vehicles in the driveway and it appeared no one was there.Officers knocked on the door and received no response, so they began calling the child's name. Once they began yelling, they received a response.They first asked the child if she was OK and the girl replied with "no." Officers then asked if she needed help and she replied, "yes."Officers then made entry through a front porch window and found the child locked in a two-foot by four-foot closet under a stairway. She had no food or water and appeared to be extremely malnourished with burns, scratches, and bruises all over her body.The 5-year-old was taken from the home by a daycare employee. She was taken to Randolph Hospital and transferred to Brenner's Children's Hospital.She is currently in the custody of the Randolph County Department of Social Services.As a result, Adam Joshua Byrd, who is the child's father, and Crystal Dawn Carnahan, who is a child caretaker, were arrested.Byrd is charged with assault with a deadly weapon serious injury, intentional child abuse serious physical injury and negligent child abuse serious physical injury.Carnahan is charged with assault with deadly weapon serious injury, intentional child abuse serious physical injury and negligent child abuse serious physical injury.Both were taken to the Randolph County Jail on a 0,000 secured bond. 1794

RANDALLSTOWN, Md. -- A 5-month-old boy was sent to an intensive care unit at The John Hopkins Hospital after enduring the kind of attack that many grown adults have not.The attack on Garrison Bailey Borkoski happened just after 1 a.m. Saturday as he and his mother slept in a house on Chapman Road in Randallstown, Maryland.“That adult, at some point and time, got up and went to the bathroom and that’s when the 5-month-old was bitten by a dog in the house, a pit bull,” said Det. Robert Reason of the Baltimore County Police Department. “There were actually several pit bulls in the home at the time this occurred.”There were four pit bulls in the home, which the owner would later tell police have no cages and typically have their roam of the interior of the house.Both mother and child had only moved in a week or two earlier.“There are no charges pending right now,” said Reason. “Based on the investigation, there is no indication that anybody had any intent to cause harm to the child at all, so there are no charges pending right now.”In the aftermath of the attack, paramedics found the baby covered in blood and motionless, but still breathing.It was later determined that Garrison had suffered a large laceration to the top of his head and lacerations to his neck, as well as puncture wounds to the rest of his body, but miraculously, just fours days after the attack, doctors released him from the hospital.“Right now, fortunately, the 5-month-old is home and recovering and doing well, so we’re very, very happy about that,” said Reason.According to the Baltimore County Department of Health, the owners surrendered the four pit bulls, allowing them to be euthanized, but it was later determined only two of the dogs had actually attacked the child.The other two were returned to the owners.This story was originally published by Jeff Hager at WMAR. 1871
