BEIJING, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- China-U.S. relationship that by large was entering a period where our focus would be more and more on global issues, said U.S. Ambassador to China Jon Huntsman on Friday.     Huntsman made the remarks at the Forum for America/China Exchange at Stanford (FACES) in Peking University, a top university in China.     "Obama arrived and found what he had hoped for," he said relating to the U.S. President's just concluded China visit after reviewing the bilateral link chronicle.     U.S. and China could strengthen cooperation in areas including military, people to people exchanges, climate change, clean energy and economic crisis, Huntsman told the delegates attending the forum.     He said the U.S.-China relationship was so "large and complicated" that managers of the relations should "take the areas of commonality" and "realize and speak open" about the disagreements.     Huntsman, who once lived in Taiwan and could speak Chinese called Chinese the "21st century language", saying diplomacy is ineffective without "investing a generation of professionals willing to invest their careers in turn in language, culture, regional studies."     FACES, a forum held in Beijing from Nov.15-20, gathered more than forty students from China and the U.S to discuss political, social, economic and cultural issues.

HUA HIN, Thailand, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and his Australian counterpart Kevin Rudd called here on Saturday for an early signing of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two Asia-Pacific major economies. "The mutual-respect, mutual-trust and cooperation between China and Australia, both as big countries in the Asia-Pacific region, will not only yield tangible benefits for the two nations, but also have a positive impact on a larger scale," Wen said in talks with Rudd on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summits.     The key to maintaining a sound and steady development of bilateral ties lies in their respect for and care about each other's core interests and major concerns, Wen said, pledging to work together with Australia to boost their ties. BEIJING, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- An Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) could make the Chinese mainland and Taiwan complement each other and achieve the best win-win results, Yao Jian, spokesman of the Ministry of Commerce (MOC), said here Monday.     "The ECFA could enhance the well-being of the people across the Taiwan Straits," Yao said in a statement on the ministry's website.     He added that with increasingly strengthened cross-Straits economic cooperation, the signing of the ECFA should be in line with the development of the cross-Straits relationship and the characteristics of the mainland-Taiwan economic and trade cooperation.     The ECFA would help reduce trade barriers gradually and bring positive effects to the economies, trade and most industries across the Straits, according to a latest research report completed by the academy of international trade and economic cooperation under the MOC.     Official figures revealed that the combined cross-Straits trade volume stood at 129.22 billion U.S. dollars in 2008.

BUCHAREST, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping said Tuesday that China values its ties with Romania and is willing to work with the Romanian people to enhance cooperation and cement friendship. Xi made the remarks when meeting with people from all walks of life in Romania, including parliament leaders, government officials, former ambassadors to China and others.     The Chinese and the Romanian people enjoy profound friendship, Xi said. They have respected and supported each other and treated each other on an equal footing since the two countries established diplomatic ties 60 years ago. He attributed the sound development of bilateral ties to the unremitting efforts by people devoted to promoting friendly relation between the two countries.     For his part, Adrian Nastase, Romanian vice president of Chamber of Deputies and former prime minister, said the Romanian people would not forget the precious help and support from China at different times.     Maintaining friendly ties with China has been a priority for Romania's foreign policy no matter which party takes power, Nastase said, reiterating the country's willingness to make joint efforts with China and carry on their friendship from generation to generation.     After hearing speeches by participants at the meeting, the Chinese vice president said the gathering was intended to show that the Chinese people cherish their friendship with Romanians and the Chinese government values its relations with Romania.     China is ready to join hands with Romania to enhance their cooperation of mutual benefit and promote their traditional friendship, Xi said.     He also encouraged the participants to contribute more to promoting China-Romania friendship so as to create a bright future for bilateral ties.     Xi arrived here Sunday on an official visit to Romania, which was the last leg of his five-nation European tour.
