CANBERRA, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Queensland mining magnate Clive Palmer said Saturday his company has secured Australia's largest coal export deal with China.The Resourcehouse chairman said the company had reached a 20-year agreement with one of China's largest power companies, China Power International Development, the flagship company of China Power Investment Corporation (CPI)."This deal with CPI is Australia's biggest ever export contract," Palmer said in a statement."This is Australia's largest single, non-syndicated, finance deal and the interest from China highlights the strength of the project and the benefits for Queensland and Australia in developing a new world class coal region such as the Galilee Basin," he told reporters."There will be four underground mines and two open cut mines," he said.Meanwhile, Queensland Premier Anna Bligh said there was some environmental red tape to negotiate before the project was approved but she did not expect any last-minute problems."It is world demand which is making it a commercial opportunity," Bligh said.More than 100 million additional tons of coal could be exported every year from Queensland because of new projects under consideration by the state government.

SHANGHAI, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao Friday called on the Chinese people to pool their strength and resources to make sure the Shanghai World Expo a success.     With just 106 days to go before the Expo opening on May 1, Hu visited the Expo site Friday during an inspection tour in Shanghai.     "Hosting the World Expo is not only a significant event of Shanghai, but also of the whole nation," he said, noting it was both the responsibility of Shanghai and the whole country to hold a successful Expo. HONG KONG, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Vietnamese and Chinese officials said here Monday that they will make joint efforts to further cement ties between the two countries, and ties between Vietnam and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).The officials made the remarks at a reception, hosted by Vietnam's Consulate General in the HKSAR, to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the People's Republic of China."The establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries on Jan. 18, 1950 is a splendid milestone in the development of relations between the two countries," said Pham Cao Phong, consul-general of Vietnam in the HKSAR.He said that the Chinese government and Chinese people have provided great support and assistance to Vietnam in its struggle for independence and freedom as well as its reform and modernization drive.On behalf of the Vietnamese government, the consul-general extended sincere gratitude to the Chinese government and the Chinese people for their support to Vietnam.He said that in recent years, relations between the two countries have developed rapidly, with cooperation in political, economic, cultural and other sectors further deepened.The year of 2010 marks the first year of the founding of ASEAN-- China Free Trade Area, and the year has also been named the Year of Vietnam-China Friendship, which Pham said will "bring relations of the two countries into a new spring."Over the past six decades, the political relations between the two countries have become mature, with the deepening of bilateral cooperation in various sectors, said Lu Xinhua, commissioner of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR, at the reception.Lu said that he hoped the two countries will carry on what has been achieved in their bilateral relations, further promote mutual trust, deepen cooperation and consolidate good neighborly relations to open a new chapter for the relations between the two countries.

BEIJING, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- China named and shamed more than 10,000 workshops and selling groups in dust and poisonous material-related industries last year in a bid to fight against occupational diseases, according to the Ministry of Health (MOH).The figure was revealed at a national meeting on food safety and sanitation supervision here Monday amid an ongoing campaign on regulating workshops and selling companies in the fields of mining, quartzite processing, gem processing, stone processing, smelting and cement production among others.The campaign, starting in last August, was jointly launched by the State Administration of Work Safety, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and All-China Federation of Labor.Earlier this month, 152 workers at an electrical and lighting company in south China's Guangdong Province were found to have suspected mercury poisoning, showing symptoms such as headaches, hair loss, joint aches and shivers.According to the company, all six production lines of the workshop used liquid mercury, but some workers seldom took the trouble to wear a mask at work.Vice Health Minister Chen Xiaohong said at the meeting that the ministry is currently working with other departments to set up regular meetings at ministerial level on the prevention and control of occupational diseases.The MOH is also aiming to set up a network against occupational diseases at grassroot level while providing basic job-related health services for migrant workers, said Chen.

The two ministers had talks earlier Friday.Yang said since China and Liberia resumed diplomatic ties in 2003, the two countries had maintained political mutual trust, fruitful economic cooperation and close cultural exchanges.Yang appreciated Liberia's adherence to the one-China policy and its support for China on the Taiwan and Tibet-related issues."China is ready to make joint efforts with Liberia to maintain high-level exchanges, deepen economic cooperation and expand cultural exchanges, in a bid to achieve greater development of bilateral relations," Yang said.Akerele applauded China's great support and assistance to Liberia, saying her government valued the friendly cooperative ties with China.Liberia welcomed more Chinese business to make investment there, and was willing to expand cooperation with China in various sectors, she said.Liberia would also work with China to strengthen communication and coordination on the international and regional issues, such as climate change and reform of the UN Security Council, she noted.Akerele also spoke highly of China's active and comprehensive fulfillment of the FOCAC fruits, saying that her country would work with China to advance the Liberia-China cooperation and the Africa-China cooperation within the FOCAC framework.Shortly after the end of the Liberian civil war in late 2003, the West African nation reestablish diplomatic ties with China. China joined the peacekeeping mission in Liberia in December 2003 under a resolution of the UN Security Council.
