SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Despite having the most coronavirus cases of any local university, large off-campus parties continue to be an issue for San Diego State University and nearby residents.Students living off-campus have been attending large parties, according to neighbors. As of Saturday, SDSU had 1,184 COVID-19 cases, 767 of those cases being reported in off-campus students.Locals living in the College Area says many students continue to ignore public health orders and hold large, loud parties with no physical distancing or mask wearing."It's really frustrating and at this point, I feel like there's not a lot that we can do because you know those people, they're just going to keep doing what they're doing," one neighbor said.In a statement to ABC 10News' reporting partner KPBS, San Diego State says more than a hundred notices of violations have been delivered to residences in the college area.The university also contracts elite security to keep an eye on the neighborhood surrounding the school for any violations. If a security guard notices a party, they call police to respond.As of Friday, Cal State San Marcos had reported 18 total COVID-19 cases, three of which were off-campus. At UC San Diego, there have been 106 coronavirus cases since March 1, with three being reported since Oct. 1. Zillow says the median home in San Diego is now worth 1,000. In the US, the median home is worth 6,800, down 0.1 percent from April. Overall, Zillow says home values in the US grew by more than 5 percent year-over-year. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Holiday Bowl officials said Thursday that its 43rd annual football game will not be played this year.Due to the pandemic, the bowl's Board of Directors voted unanimously to cancel the December game, which has been played since 1978. The bowl’s traditional Bowl Week events had already been canceled for this year, including the Holiday Bowl Parade.Holiday Bowl CEO Mark Neville said that in addition to challenges in holding the game safely for fans, the virus had, "created a situation in that we wouldn’t be able to welcome fans, ultimately resulting in no tourism. Couple that with the financial and potential health risks of trying to play the game during this pandemic and it was clear this was the right decision for us.""This has been the most difficult decision our Board has ever had to make since our bowl game started in 1978," said Neville. "While it’s not the decision we wanted to make, it’s the right decision for our non-profit association and the community for the long term."The game has brought in an average million in economic benefit and led to more than 28,000 hotel room nights annually for the region, the board said.
