LAKE CLARKE SHORES, Fla. — A Florida family is securing their home after two of their cats were shot in the back with a pellet gun, forcing them to be euthanized. Police are looking for whoever is responsible. First, it was Peanut, a black kitten, and then Fritz, a 4-year-old white and orange cat back in March and April, respectively.They came home to their owner, Debbie Hiatt, with a wound in their back and their hind legs dragging back in the spring. “The biggest thing for me was just wanting to find someplace else to live. Because I don’t trust anyone,” Hiatt said in an interview. In X-rays, you can see a single pellet lodged in each one of their spines A veterinarian would have no choice but to put them down. Peanut was the hardest. “His front was so full of life but nothing in the back. Even Fritz was hard, but the baby? It was a lot harder with the baby,” Hiatt said. Since then, taking no chances, she and her husband John had cameras installed around their home and secured their back porch for their remaining cats and dogs. She says six other cats have inexplicably gone missing over the last year. “It’s not fair to the animals. They don’t know. And what they could have done is come to me and said 'hey, keep your animals out of my yard.' And then at that point in time, we would have done this probably a lot sooner. And then I would have still have Peanut. And Fritz,” she said. Lake Clark Shores police say they have identified a person of interest but haven’t made an arrest yet.“Catch the person. LAS VEGAS, Nevada — More changes could be coming to the "free drink" system in Las Vegas casinos.There is special technology on table-top machines, such as video poker, that monitors when you earn a comped drink. Now, gamblers may see it on slot machines, too.Ardent Progressive Systems and Games has already installed its technology on about 90 slot machines at The Riverside Resort in Laughlin.It's considered a trial run for a couple months to see how it goes."The hope now is, the trial down in Laughlin will be successful and then we've got several properties that are waiting to see the results of that and possibly implementing it in the near future up here in Las Vegas," said Albert Tabola with Ardent Progressive Systems and Games.The technology is a strip of LED lights that faces you while you play. Red means you're not ready for a drink. Green means you are ready for a drink. Yellow means you're getting close to qualifying for a drink. Orange means you're playing too slowly and falling off track."You will know as you play whether you qualify for a complimentary drink or not, as will the cocktail waitress," Tabola said.Players do not have to play max bet to qualify for a drink. They ust need to consistently play."The qualification levels on there are very, very low so this should not affect anybody that plays for the most part, at all," he said. Less than a month after the Trump administration weakened Obamacare's contraceptive mandate, the University of Notre Dame announced it will stop covering birth control for students, faculty and staff.The Catholic institution, which had long battled the Obama administration over the mandate, will end coverage of contraceptives for employees after Dec. 31. Students, whose insurance follows the academic calendar, will lose the benefits after Aug. 14."The University of Notre Dame honors the moral teachings of the Catholic Church," the University Health Services director wrote to students in an email last week. "To comply with federal law, Aetna Student Health has provided coverage, separate from University coverage, for additional women's health products or procedures that the University objects to based on its religious beliefs."Under Obamacare, insurance plans had to cover contraception for women without charging a co-pay. Over 55 million American women have had access to birth control coverage with zero out-of-pocket costs, according to the National Women's Law Center.Related: Trump administration deals major blow to Obamacare birth control mandateA fairly limited number of employers -- mainly churches and some other religious entities -- could get an exemption to the mandate. Notre Dame's students and workers received coverage this way.The Trump administration, however, issued new rules last month that would let a broad range of employers stop offering contraceptive coverage through their health insurance plans if they have a "sincerely held religious or moral objection."Notre Dame is one of the first employers to take advantage of the increased leeway. Its president, Rev. John Jenkins, applauded the administration's decision last month, saying "no one should be forced to choose between living out his or her faith and complying with the law."The university had filed lawsuits seeking relief from the contraceptive mandate in 2012 and then again 2013.The tables have now turned, with the American Civil Liberties Union filing a lawsuit against the Trump administration last month that challenges the new rules. One of its clients, Kate Rochat, is a law student at Notre Dame."While not surprising, Notre Dame's move to block access to affordable contraceptive coverage is deeply disappointing," said ACLU Staff Attorney Brigitte Amiri. "We have already taken legal action against the Trump Administration because our client Kate Rochat and the thousands of other women affected by this decision should not have their access to basic health care services denied simply because of where they work or go to school."Some Notre Dame students are also protesting the university's decision. The Graduate Workers Collective of Notre Dame, an independent group of graduate students, held a rally last month and just started circulating an online petition demanding the administration re-examine the move."The health of people at Notre Dame who can become pregnant, especially those who are low-income, will be jeopardized by obstructed access to reproductive care," the petition reads. "Meanwhile, University representatives are citing religious liberty as the rationale for a policy which is in fact discriminatory. The University's position is philosophically incoherent and morally untenable."Kate Bermingham, who is pursuing her PhD in political science at Notre Dame, said she depends on the free coverage for birth control pills and contraceptive counseling. Named for the ancient British site Stonehenge, where the sun lines up among ancient stones on the solstice, the sun lines up with the gap in La Jolla’s Scripps Institution of Oceanography pier on certain days of the year. The natural phenomenon makes for spectacular photos. This summer, Scrippshenge is set to take place August 7 - 9, according to the Photo Ephemeris app. “You might even get the shot on Aug 10/11 also, probably with a partially set sun,” says Stephen Trainor of Crookneck Apps. “You'll see the sunset line is ever so slightly to the north of the pier center: that's what you need, because sunset is the moment the sun disappears below the horizon, hence in order to frame the setting sun between the legs of the pier, it still needs to be just above the horizon, and therefore true sunset has to be just slightly to the north,” says Trainor.
