SAN MARCOS (KGTV) - A report of a man shooting his wife at their North San Diego County home Tuesday may have been a swatting call, San Diego County Sheriff’s Deputies said.Deputies got a call indicating a man had opened fire on his wife at a home in the 1400 block of Clearview Way near San Elijo Park in San Marcos about 2:30 p.m.Investigators surrounded the home, breaking down the door with guns drawn. They found the man unarmed on the balcony. No victim was in the home. Several schools were temporarily placed on lockdown. The man’s wife later arrived at the scene, unaware of the situation. The woman, who did not want to be identified,  told 10News she and her husband are gamers with millions of followers. "People always have an opinion and they may not like what you do or say and sometimes it’s taken to an extreme when they call the cops on you," said the man's wife. The wife said her husband had no idea deputies had entered the home until he heard shouting. He usually wears a headset while he's playing. "He heard 'this is the police'. I think he heard it, 'this is the police' and he took his headset off and he came downstairs and he saw guns being pointed at him and he wanted to show his hands because he was afraid to get shot," she said. The call made to deputies was traced back to a doctor’s office in Michigan, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. Deputies confirmed the call was a hoax.Swatting is the practice of making a hoax call about a crime to draw law enforcement officers to a specific location.The San Marcos man said he had been playing an online game when the incident happened.This story has been updated from the initial Sheriff's Department report that a woman had been shot at the home. 1801

(KGTV) - Bedbugs, the bane of many homeowners, were discovered lurking inside several San Diego County buildings last week.10News was tipped off to a bedbug infestation at a county building: the Agricultural Weights and Measures building in San Marcos.The county confirmed to 10News, bedbugs were found there and another building from the same department in Kearny Mesa.  As for how it happened, a county spokesperson revealed only that an employee is the cause and public areas were not affected.Workers from the Agricultural Weights and Measures Department, which provides pest control for the county, have laid traps, monitored for bed bugs, and moved employees to a separate area.Garrett Thrasher is Vice President of Thrasher Pest Control.  He says the typical plan of attack could also involve K9 alerting, vacuuming, steam cleaning and sometimes chemical treatments."From there, it's weekly checks to make sure there is no new activity or complaint," said Thrasher.Thrasher says bedbug calls have been increasing over the last few months and are slightly up from the same time last year. 1161

(KGTV) - The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office issued a mandatory evacuation order Monday for some residents of the Thomas, Sherpa, Alamo, and Whittier Fire burn zones ahead of a storm.A flash flood watch put the areas in the ‘Extreme Risk’ category for potential mudslides. Residents were told to leave by 8 p.m. Monday. Mission Road around 11 a.m. when she was hit by a black BMW that jumped the curb. Skid marks show the car first tried to stop on the asphalt, then hit the curb, a teenage girl, a tree then a wall. Witnesses said the driver is a baseball player and senior at Mission Hills High School.7-Eleven employees told 10News, the victim is also a student. They said she was at school Saturday morning for dance team rehearsal and walked over to the 7-11 on Mulberry on her break to buy some snacks. On her walk back to school, they said she was hit and killed.Friends of the young woman gathered at the crash site to pay their respects, lay flowers and light candles Saturday night. The driver was not injured and stayed on scene to cooperate with investigators.The cause of the crash is under investigation.Students say that stretch of Mission Road is known for speeding. While the limit is 45 mph, they say the flow of traffic is often 10 miles above that. 1206
