BEIJING, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisory body decided Friday to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the 1911 Revolution in 2011.The decision was announced on the last day of the 11th session of the Standing Committee of the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).The 1911 Revolution, led by Dr. Sun Yat-sen, broke out on Oct. 10, 1911. It overthrew the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), ending thousands of years of Chinese feudalism.Separately, Jia Qinglin, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, said at the meeting all attendees agreed with the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee proposal for the nation's next five-year program.Jia said all CPPCC National Committee members should learn and understand the proposal to ensure China realizes the transformation of its economic development pattern.The CPPCC will continue to make further efforts to help implement the 12th Five-Year Program, Jia said.Also Friday, Jia said at a group study meeting of the CPPCC National Committee that members and organizations of the CPPCC have made great efforts to promote economic and cultural exchange with Taiwan compatriots."It is necessary for CPPCC members to make a good use of our advantages with wide connections, be ready to offer advice and suggestions, and carry out and promote exchange between compatriots across the Taiwan Strait, so as to enhance understanding and trust, and make contribution to advancing peaceful reunification of our motherland," said Jia.

BEIJING, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao held talks last Friday with top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong Il in Changchun, capital city of northeast China' s Jilin Province.Kim, general secretary of the Worker' s Party of Korea (WPK) and chairman of the DPRK National Defense Commission, paid an unofficial visit to China from August 26 to 30 at the invitation of Hu, also general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).Hu said that at present, China and the DPRK are increasing vigorous exchange and cooperation in various fields, among various departments and between provinces along the borders. NANJING, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Sunday urged China to keep moving down the path of sustainable development and put greater emphasis on social equity and environmental sustainability.Addressing students of Nanjing University in east China's Jiangsu Province, Ban said as the world's most populous country with the fastest growing economy, China has become the world's largest manufacturer and exporter but also the greatest emitter of greenhouse gases."Seven of the world's 10 most-polluted cities are in China. Your environmental footprint is growing daily," Ban said, adding that fortunately China is beginning to fight the side-effects of prosperity -- climate change and environmental degradation -- besides poverty.The UN chief noted that many of these development problems were raised during discussions as Chinese leaders recently met to draw the 12th Five-Year Plan for economic and social development of the country from 2010 to 2015.Ban applauded the Chinese government's goal of leading the country into an all-around Xiaokang society, or well-off society, by 2020 and said making Xiaokang a reality will, perhaps, ultimately become China's "great export -- its gift to humankind.""You already have a concept for it... He received an Honorary Doctorate in Laws from Nanjing University.Ban began his China visit on Saturday and is expected to leave on Wednesday.
