This year has been … wild. As many of us look ahead to 2021, it’s probably with a mix of hopefulness and optimism. The Pantone Color Institute, the color authority in the design industry, has revealed that the Color of the Year for 2021 is actually two colors, Ultimate Gray and Illuminating Yellow.“The selection of two independent colors highlight how different elements come together to express a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting, conveying the idea that it’s not about one color or one person, it’s about more than one,” said Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, in a press release.“Practical and rock solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, this is a color combination that gives us resilience and hope. We need to feel encouraged and uplifted, this is essential to the human spirit,” Eiseman added. This is the first time a shade of gray has been selected. Next year will be the second time two colors will share the spotlight, the first time was in 2016.Pantone has been selecting a Color of the Year for the last 22 years. The selected color typically influences packaging and product development."Our goal is to engage people in a conversation around color," Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, told CNN. "It has to be organic. It has to be truthful to what's taking place."This color combination already popped up on fashion runways this fall, and will likely be seen on more products, apparel, home furnishings and packaging. They had selected Classic Blue for 2020, as a sense of reassurance as the world moved into a new decade."In retrospect, now we look back at it and think, 'Well, that was a fortuitous choice for the year,'" Eiseman told CNN recently. 1784
TORONTO (AP) — The NHL believes all seven Canadian teams will be able to start the season playing in their home arenas.NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said Thursday the league believes it is clear to play in Canada during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic after discussions with the five provincial governments with NHL teams to try to gain approval to start Jan. 13.The NHL realigned its divisions for the season so that the North Division — which features all seven Canadian teams — would not have to cross the U.S.-Canada border, which remains closed to non-essential travel until at least Jan. 21.The league released its schedule Wednesday, with each team playing 56 games instead of the usual 82.On Tuesday, the league released its coronavirus-related protocols, which include coaches must wear masks at all times while behind the bench, owners can't have face-to-face meetings with players, and teams can only travel with up to 50 people, according to the Associated Press. The AP also reported that the league had asked the players not to go to restaurants, bars, and clubs and not have outside guests at their homes. 1140

Thousands of women are downing tools, boycotting domestic tasks and occupying the streets of Spain as part of a global strike on International Women's Day."Today we claim a society free of oppression, exploitation and sexual violence," said the organizers of the nation's first "feminist strike" in their manifesto. "We call for rebellion and the struggle against the alliance between patriarchy and capitalism that wants us to be docile, submissive and silent."Twenty-four hours of strikes and rallies kicked off at midnight in Madrid. Protesters gathered at the central square banging pots and pans as the city council buildings behind them were lit up in purple, the official color of #IWD2018.As light dawned, demonstrators began gathering in cities across the country to call for an end to unequal pay and precarious working conditions, and to draw attention to the role of women in "devalued" domestic labor. Most of the country's unions called for a 24-hour strike, while two of the biggest have asked their members to stop work for just two hours. While Spain is seeing some of the largest walkouts, women in many other countries around the world are also on strike Thursday in response to the call for a global work stoppage.A national strike in Italy is disrupting rail and air transport, while cities across the UK are also seeing rallies by striking women. 1380
