SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County reported 284 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, 69 of those cases connected to San Diego State University.Thursday's reported cases bring the region's total to 41,608 cases.Since the fall semester started on Aug. 24, San Diego State has reported 509 confirmed COVID-19 cases and four probable cases. Greeters, or wellness ambassadors, are also on campus to remind students of COVID-19 policies.Violation of the policies can result in suspension or in extreme cases, expulsion.Thursday, the California State University system, which includes SDSU, announced that course would continue to be held mostly online in Spring 2021, with certain limited instances for in-person classes."We have learned from experience that announcing this decision now will allow faculty and staff to continue or start professional development to be even more effective in the virtual space. We also know that deciding now will allow our students and their families time to plan appropriately. This decision is the only responsible one available to us at this time," says CSU Chancellor Timothy White. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County health officials Monday echoed Governor Gavin Newsom’s demand to close more businesses as coronavirus intensifies.The state announced Monday that it was closing indoor operations for places of worship, restaurants, wineries, movie theatres and family entertainment, zoos, museums, cardrooms, fitness centers, some offices, personal care services, hair salons and barbershops, and malls. All bars were also ordered to close."We are moving back into a modification mode of our stay-at-home order," Newsom said. The new order takes effect in San Diego at midnight Wednesday morning. The announcement comes as 419 more people throughout the county tested positive for coronavirus Monday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego drivers will have more opportunities to take care of driver’s license renewals and vehicle-related needs thanks to longer hours at California Department of Motor Vehicles offices. Starting Monday, 69 offices will be open for customers at 7 a.m., four days a week. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego City leaders are deciding where to spend money in the next fiscal year. Wednesday’s meeting was the first step in the budget for the year. 10News spoke with Barbara Bry just before the meeting. “All nine of us have submitted our budget priorities. What’s interesting is there’s a lot of consensus among all of us as to how much the city should be allocating its funding," Bry said.The latest 10News-Union-Tribune polls shows the top issue as homelessness. It’s one of the issues Bry says will receive major support in next yea’s budget. Wednesday, the budget committee reviewed and adopted a set of funding priorities for what will be a priority for funding in the next fiscal year. The committee’s list is alphabetical at this point, so the issues aren’t ranked by importance. The list does, however, reflect what our poll uncovered: climate action, homelessness, parks and recreation facilities, public safety and sidewalk and street repairs are all important issues. As for our poll, homelessness and affordable housing came out on top at 21 and 20 percent respectively.
