A tweet by the Girl Scouts congratulating new Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett drew such outrage from Barrett’s critics that the youth organization swiftly deleted it. That then sparked a new backlash from Barrett’s supporters. The original tweet was posted Wednesday evening. It said, “Congratulations Amy Coney Barrett on becoming the 5th woman appointed to the Supreme Court since its inception in 1789.” The post featured an image of Barrett, who was confirmed Monday and sworn in at the court on Tuesday; along with currently serving justices Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor; former Justice Sandra Day O’Connor; and Barrett’s predecessor, the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.The post was quickly attacked by critics who view Barrett, a conservative, as a potential threat to civil liberties and women’s rights.“What kind of patch does one earn for uplifting a woman who is the antithesis of justice?” tweeted U.S. Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass.As the online criticism mounted, the Girl Scouts deleted their original tweet and posted a new statement.“Earlier today, we shared a post highlighting the five women who have been appointed to the Supreme Court. It was quickly viewed as a political and partisan statement which was not our intent and we have removed the post.... Girl Scouts of the USA is a nonpolitical, nonpartisan organization. We are neither red nor blue, but Girl Scout GREEN. A suspect has been arrested and the gun and mask have been recovered after an incident at the Boulevard Mall in Las Vegas, according to police. The gun appears to be a fake gun, according to police. The identity of the suspect will be released Friday morning.  Police said they received calls about a person with a gun at the Boulevard Mall on Maryland Parkway. No injuries were reported and police say no shots were fired. The mall was evacuated while officers made sure the person with a gun is not inside the mall. Deputy Chief Chris Jones told the media during a press briefing that video has been obtained of a person wearing a mask and carrying a long gun. The incident began shortly after 7 p.m. Watch video from inside the Boulevard Mall belowAs the news first broke earlier tonight, thoughts of the Las Vegas shooting came to mind. But when it comes to mall shootings in Las Vegas there have been a few isolated incidents. In July 2014, one person was injured during a shooting at the Fashion Show Mall. In that case, police reported a scuffle broke out and one man was shot in the neck. There was another shooting in May 2016 in the parking lot at Fashion Show Mall.This occurs at a crucial moments for Boulevard Mall. The more than 50-year-old shopping center was once the premier mall in the city but fell into disrepair. It was sold in 2013 to developer Roland Sansone for .5 million and then embarked on a million renovation project.It’s had some near-term ups and downs. After the SeaQuest Aquarium announced in 2016 it would open, Macy’s and J.C. Penney both said last year they would close. A suburban Atlanta police officer resigned after his department said he used foul language and inappropriate tactics during the arrest of a 65-year-old grandmother during a traffic stop, recorded on a police dashboard camera.Alpharetta Officer James Legg had been called in as backup during a May 4 traffic stop because the Lyft driver would not sign a ticket and refused another officer's order to get out of her car, officials said.In a letter to Alpharetta Public Safety Director John Robison released Friday, Legg said he felt he behaved appropriately and followed his training."I judged her actions to be passive resistance and used very limited force to end a multiple minute encounter with the suspect," he said. "Maybe I should not have used profanity, but its immediate effectiveness is not questionable and I do believe I acted reasonably under the circumstances."Dashcam video showed Legg pointing at the driver and shouting, "You're not in charge. A Tennessee woman was behind a security threat that placed the White House on lockdown.The vehicle that rammed the security gate Friday afternoon is registered to Jessica R. Ford, a woman who has had run-ins with Secret Service in the past. The car also had Rutherford County tags.The incident report says Ford intentionally hit the fixed security barrier with her car while holding a gun in her hand behind the wheel.According to the report, Ford hit the gate, and continued to accelerate, while an officer demanded she put the gun down multiple times. Witnesses reported seeing smoke from her vehicle's tires.When she did not comply,  the officer removed the gun from hand before she was pulled from behind the steering wheel.Once they pulled her out of the driver's side window, they handcuffed her and searched the vehicle.The White House was placed on lockdown for about an hour during the investigation. The Secret Service confirmed no shots were fired during the incident, and no law enforcement personnel were injured.President Trump was inside the White House at the time, hosting Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull. Turnbull remained at the White House as the incident was being investigated.The incident wasn't Ford's first run-in with secret service. According to reports, Ford tried to get past security and scale a fence at the White House in April, May and July of 2017.  She was arrested and charged with unlawful entry and ordered to stay away from the White House grounds.Ford has a lengthy criminal history in Tennessee as well. In 2003, she was charged with DUI and prescription fraud. From 2004 to 2006 she was charged with multiple counts of violation of probation and resisting arrest. In 2011,  in Nashville she was charged with criminal trespassing.The Secret Services said Ford is now facing multiple charges in connection to Friday's incident including Unlawful Entry, Carrying a Pistol without a License, and Destruction of Government Property.Learn more about Friday's incident here. 2113
