Larry King has gone public with a recent cancer diagnosis.In a statement to CNN on Thursday, King's rep said the legendary talk show host was "diagnosed with stage 1 Adenocarcinoma, the most common type of lung cancer, through a routine chest examination.""He immediately underwent a successful surgery to remove the upper lobe and lymph node," the rep added. LEUCADIA, Calif. (KGTV) - Roberta Walker, Executive Director of the Cardiff 101 Main Street Association and longtime advocate for more bike lanes, was hit by a truck while riding her bicycle Saturday morning in the Leucadia community of Encinitas. Walker was riding past the Leucadia post office on North Coast Highway 101 just past 6 a.m. when she was rear-ended by a truck, according to a Sheriff's Department spokesperson. They would not release any formation about the driver. Walker is currently in critical but stable condition. She underwent a second skull surgery Monday morning, and has also had a lung operation. Friends say Walker was a beloved and active member of the Encinitas community who has campaigned for increased safety along the North Coast Highway 101 corridor. In particular, she is a supporter of the plan known as the Leucadia Streetscape, which would remove one lane of traffic in each direction, replaced by bike lanes and roundabouts. Supporters say the plan would make the area much safer for those traveling by means other than automobiles. While the plan was approved by the city of Encinitas in 2010, it has been held up by years of battling over the details. That includes a lawsuit filed earlier in 2018 by residents who say the Streetscape plan would make traffic worse in the area and make it more difficult to access nearby beaches. "There is a certain amount of resistance to that chance," says Kellie Shay Hinze, a friend of Walker's. "But I hope what's clear now is this is an emergency." Las Vegas police say they have found the body of a young child inside of a duffel bag after a mother told them that her 3-year-old daughter disappeared during a walk to a local grocery store.The woman called police around 9 p.m. local time Thursday. She told police she was walking with her four young children to Albertson’s, across the street from her apartment complex.The child's grandmother also contacted Scripps station KTNV in Las Vegas and told the TV station that her grandchild was missing.Police officers searched the woman’s apartment first, not finding anything, and then the neighborhood. They decided to search the apartment again because parts of the woman’s story did not add up.During the second search, the body of a small child was found in a bag in a closet. Police officers detected a strong odor and it appears the body may have been in the closet for a few days. The woman was placed in custody and the other three children are in protective custody.The missing girl's father was arrested earlier this week after police received a call about a domestic disturbance.   1115

LEAWOOD, Kan. - Walking down the streets, grocery stores, and airports, face coverings are the current reality.For his bar mitzvah project, Leawood Middle School seventh-grader, Jonah Stein, wanted to add a little more to masks."These are MaskerAIDS, they're basically necklaces for your masks," Jonah said. "It's when you're not wearing them, they kind of just hanging down so they're not in the way. But they're also functional when you need them."As he sells his MaskerAIDS, Jonah says all the proceeds benefit Jewish Family Services."At the start of the pandemic, you could just see lines of people trying to get food, just waiting for food to be put in their cars," he said.Jonah, who volunteers at Jewish Family Services, says he wanted to help families in need who are food insecure and going through a difficult time."Jonah is just such a great example of one person making a huge impact," JFS older adult services director, Laura Gilman said.From produce to toiletries and protein, Gilman said she's seen the need grow."We at least doubled during COVID. We're serving over 500 families a month," she said. "And then by the end of this year, we're going to serve about, between October, November, December, about 1,500 households, so that's not individuals, that's households."The MaskerAID proceeds go towards the Kesher KC Bags, which Jonah also helped bring to Kansas City."Someone we know in Minnesota, it was at their synagogue, and I kind of told JFS about it, and they used the idea and went with it," Jonah said. "They are bags that have essentials of, like, heat up meals and food and then they also have some resources.""These bags are a really awesome way for us to create a stopgap for people," Gilman said. "We operate by appointment only because we are a choice and voice pantry."Jonah's goal was to raise ,800 for JFS, but he underestimated himself and his work."It's been amazing," he said. "We've raised ,600 dollars and still climbing for JFS."Thousands of dollars have been raised to help serve families he may never meet."Even though I might not meet them, I know it kind of either brings a smile to their face and it fills their stomach," Jonah said. LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. (KGTV) - The beautiful wildflower super bloom in Southern California is being met with some ugly behavior. A sea of bright orange poppies carpets the hills along Interstate 15 in Lake Elsinore. Word spread when the bloom erupted; now the area is a huge draw for visitors. "Came out here to see the beauty in nature, the poppies, they only come every few years, so you have to enjoy it,” said Lake Elsinore resident Jessica Rodriguez. She said she’s never seen so many people visit. To see the poppies, visitors must find a spot in a mile-long stretch of parked cars. Others opt to take photos from the freeway, which is illegal. "They want that perfect picture, they can get pretty ones but it’s at the expense of the habitat,” said Josh Reinig, MSHCP Reserve Manager.The parks department posted signs telling people not to step on flowers, and they created barriers to protect certain areas. "You're kind of seeing them a lot more trampled stepped on, people just sitting on them,” Reining said. Picking just one flower could mean 30 fewer flowers grow in the future.
