after dozens of people signed a petition to have it removed.Frankton Police Department vehicles feature a decal with the phrase, "All Lives Matter." The phrase, which some consider racist, has gained popularity among those who oppose the Black Lives Matter movement.Mary Hobbs, a Frankton resident, created a petition to remove the "All Lives Matter" decal from all police vehicles. Hobbs said the town added the decals in 2016 during the height of the Black Lives Matter movement. "As I educated myself on the Black Lives Matter movement more and kind of spoke with other people about it, I kind of realized that that's not OK and it needs to come off," Hobbs said. "I think it's a controversial issue and I don't think it's one the police should've taken a stand on. I created the petition to kind of show people that it's not just me. That it is a problem."But not everyone in the community feels as strongly."Do you think people are offended by that here? I don't think so. I really don't," Angel Large said.Tyjuan Garrett, a local NAACP board member, says the phrase is all about the intention. Black Lives Matter's mission is to bring light to racial injustices that stem from systematic problems they feel are not being addressed. Garrett says implicit bias or sensitivity training for officers would be a more useful step than car decals."I mean I would love to sit down with the Frankton Police Department and have a conversation with them and say exactly what are your motives?" Garrett said. "Tell me how you are adding to the conversation of All Lives Matter. How are you expanding out to reflect all lives matter?"Frankton Town Marshal Dave Huffman did not agree to an on-camera interview. But he said the decals are not meant to criticize the Black Lives Matter movement and chose the slogan to, "illustrate the seriousness with which Frankton police officers take their duty to protect all of the town's citizens regardless of income, economic status, race, nationality, age or any other factor."But after hearing that nearly 100 people have signed a petition, the town plans to remove the decals from its police cars."I want the community to always be inclusive and accepting of anybody and I think that doing this will help the community grow," Hobbs said. This story was originally published by Stephanie Wade on 2334

her disabled grandson over the weekend. The Bradenton Police Department conducted the death investigation at an apartment in the 5100 block of Riverfront Drive on Sunday. When officers arrived at the home, they found 30-year-old Joel Parks, who unable to take care of himself, deceased. His grandmother and guardian, Lillian Parks, told officers on scene she "overdosed her grandson with the intention of ending his life," according to police.Police say Parks admitted to everything."She made statements to responding officers that she had purposely overdosed him cause she's dealing with some medical issues herself," Capt. Brian Thiers said. "She's worried when she's gone there will be nobody there to care for him.Thiers said Joel lived in a group home five days a week and spent weekends with his grandmother. After Parks is medically evaluated, police say she’ll be charged with 2nd degree murder. "At the end of the day, Lillian is responsible for the death of another human being," Thiers said. "So, she will be charged with 2nd-degree murder upon her release. She's in a secure medical facility right now. When the doctor releases her, we are intending on charging her with 2nd-degree murder."This story was originally published by WFTS. 1246

With the surge in people buying above ground and inflatable pools, coupled with the fact that kids are spending nearly all their time at home now, the risk of drowning is up significantly. It’s the leading cause of death among young children.“A lot of that has to do with just the nature of those toddlers. They are impulsive. They are quick. They're just built to explore and they're not great at following rules or understanding limits. And for them water is a fascinating thing and if they can find it, they will, and they're going to try and get in it,” said Dr. Ben Hoffman, pediatrician with AAP Council on Injury, Violence and Poison Prevention.Hoffman says a locking fence around the entire pool can cut the risk of drowning by half. If you don’t have a fence for inflatable pools, emptying them out is best. For above ground, he suggests removing the ladder.Swim lessons also can decrease the risk of drowning. But nothing replaces the constant, within arm’s length, non-distracted adult supervision.“You have to have somebody designated as a water watcher,” said Sophia Brizeus, whose daughter drowned in pool. “Make sure they are watching the kids in the water because like I said, this can happen to anybody and it only takes a second, it only takes a second.”Brizeus started the Love Bug Foundation in memory of her daughter Soraya, who was almost 2 years old when she drowned while they were visiting with family one Sunday afternoon. The toddler just slipped away and into the pool, even with adults around.Soraya was even supposed to start swim lessons a week later.Brizeus is now educating other parents about water safety through Facebook and Instagram accounts.“What I’ve learned about the drownings is it’s not like the movies at all. It happens quick. It’s silent and a child can be with a room full of people and it still happens,” said Brizeus. 1874

-- joined protesters Monday and urged officials to start the process of impeachment."The only thing you (Rosselló) just did is mess with the mental health of Puerto Ricans," Martin tweeted. "If he doesn't want to leave, (impeachment) is the only option we have."The president of Puerto Rico's House of Representatives, Carlos "Johnny" Méndez, created a special committee Friday to advise him on whether the governor committed impeachable offenses. The impeachment research committee includes three attorneys who will have 10 days to provide Méndez with a detailed report, said his spokesman, Raúl Colón.The committee will evaluate the content of the leaked messages between Rosselló and Cabinet members and determine if there's proof Rosselló committed a crime, Méndez said.If officials discover the governor did commit impeachable acts, and a vote to impeach passes the House, the issue would go to the Senate. A trial would be presided over by the head of the Supreme Court, with the senators as jurors.A two-thirds vote is needed in both chambers for an impeachment to be carried out.Not everyone wants the governor to resignFormer Senate Vice President Orlando Parga said what Rosselló wrote in those leaked chats is derogatory and deeply offensive. But he said matters of character should be judged at the polls next year.Parga said if the governor is found to be involved in corruption, "he should step down immediately."But for what has been revealed up to now, I don't think ... this is sufficient to force him out of power."'We are going to stay here no matter what'Protesters say they're not backing down because they're fed up with corruption, high poverty rates, crushing debt and a painful recovery from 2017's devastating Hurricane Maria. 1751
