Donovan State Prison houses some of California’s most infamous inmates but is now getting attention for testing innovative rehabilitation methods.One of the projects is an ambitious, 1,000-foot long mural scaling the concrete walls of part of the prison known as Echo Yard.It’s being spearheaded by inmates Erik and Lyle Menendez. The two gained notoriety in the 1990s for their highly publicized murder trial, when they were convicted of killing their wealthy parents in their Beverly Hills home. But in April of 2018, they were reunited at Donovan State Prison in Echo Yard. 10News got a glimpse at their life together behind bars. Lyle and Erik declined to be interviewed but showed off part of the mural project they’ve been involved in.The mural depicts landmarks across San Diego including Balboa Park, the Point Cabrillo lighthouse and the historic Mission San Diego de Alcala.The project came about thanks to help from Brahman Kyrie, a volunteer who had been running yoga and meditation classes in the prison. “There’s got to be consequences but there also has to be the love,” said Kyrie.She said the idea of the murals came from a conversation with the Menendez brothers.“I spoke to Lyle and Erik who had been thinking about the beautification,” she recalled.WATCH: WHAT IS THE ECHO YARDWith the help of volunteers from SDSU and with outside donations from Visions Quality Coatings and Encore Art Paint, they began the project in 2019.Echo Yard is classified as a “mixed” yard, bringing together inmates of different security levels on the premise that they will coexist peacefully in exchange for some freedoms.“I do it for therapy, it keeps me grounded,” said inmate David Armstrong about the mural project.“It’s giving me a peace of mind,” echoed Ruben Radillo, an inmate who will be getting out of prison at the end of February after a 25-year sentence.“Don’t be afraid of me,” he said. “I’m going to be a good neighbor, thanks to projects like this. People in San Francisco make the highest salaries in the world, according to a new report by Deutsche Bank. According to the report, San Francisco beat out Zurich, Switzerland this year. Zurich had a long-standing dominance on the list, but people in San Francisco are paid nearly ,000 per month more than those in the Swiss city. The report shows that San Francisco residents make an average of ,526 per month. In Zurich, the average is ,896. Although that may seem like a lot of cash to have on hand, monthly rent in the California city costs more than ,600, according to the report. 603

(AP) — Police in Northern California say they'll pursue criminal charges against a wildfire cleanup worker who posted photos of himself posing at destroyed properties.Officials in the devastated town of Paradise said Saturday that the photos and accompanying captions by Rob Freestone are "unacceptable and reprehensible."One shows a grinning Freestone with a flower pot on his head in front of a charred home. PHOENIX (KNXV/KGTV) - A small plane that crashed on a Phoenix street Monday morning -- killing both passengers  -- was just sold from a pilot in Solana Beach.The victims have been identified as 54 year-old Theodore Rich and 49 year-old Elaine Carpenter. FAA officials said the aircraft involved is a single-engine, home-built Acroduster. The plane went down in the intersection of 7th St. and Deer Valley Dr., near an FBI field office, at around 6:50 a.m. local time.One eyewitness said he saw the plane go down. At first he thought it was aerobatics, but after seeing the plane heading straight for the ground, he knew something was wrong. Video from the scene showed emergency crews working around debris in the roadway near several damaged cars. Police told media on scene the vehicles had substantial damage but no one on the ground was hurt.10News reporter Lauren Davis talked to Avi Maltzman, the Solana Beach man who just sold the plane to Rich this weekend. Maltzman said he flew with Rich for several touch-and-goes and described Rich as an experienced pilot. Maltzman said Rich even called him from Arizona just to let him know he made it home safely. “He impressed me very well with his flight skills. He did good eight or nine landings. He was comfortable and I felt comfortable with him," said Maltzman.Maltzman said the plane was built by professionally in Santa Barbara in 1993. Maltzman bought the plane in 2011 and said it was in great condition. Those who knew Rich said flying was his passion. They said Rich died doing what he loved.    1614
