When astronaut Victor Glover climbed aboard the International Space Station early Tuesday morning, he became the first Black astronaut arriving for a long-term stay.Glover, along with his fellow SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule crewmates, will stay on the ISS for six months.A handful of Black astronauts have visited the orbiting lab during space shuttle missions, their stays were a few weeks. What once was considered a childhood hobby has becoming a way to earn extra income as an adult.The business of trading, buying and selling sports cards is booming.“Cards that used to be worth to are now selling well upwards of 0,” said Mike Fruitman, owner of Mike’s Stadium Sportscards in Aurora, Colorado.He says sports cards are more popular than ever and compares buying the card of an athlete to buying stock in a company.“We had a card that got pulled last night, it featured autographs from R.J. Barrett and Zion Williamson and we anticipate it’s going to be a ,000 card,” Fruitman said.While many businesses are suffering during the pandemic, Fruitman says this industry is seeing some of its biggest sales since the pandemic began, especially once they moved online.“We had a lot of people who were bored who were looking for entertainment,” he said. “We were going online every day during COVID and our viewership was impressive. We were getting views that we never seen before.”Though buying sports cards in person is still profitable, Fruitman says fewer cards are becoming available.“The amount of people who are opening up card stores or becoming breakers, it’s all just taffy,” he said. “And that taffy is just getting slowly apart. Everybody getting less and less it seems.”Card collectors believe the future of this industry depends on part of the popularity.“Right now, you’ve got videos of Mark Wahlberg opening up boxes with his kids,” Fruitman said. “Steve Aoki is a very large, popular DJ, has opened up his own sports card trading store in L.A.”For now, sports cards are combining entertainment and economics with no signs of slowing down.“It depends on how much you can invest,” one collector said. “But yeah, there’s plenty of money to be made.” 1791

When you decide to live in the desert, you most likely understand some of your neighbors will be scorpions.But, a Phoenix woman says her apartment complex near is being overrun by scorpions.She asked KNXV to get involved after she said the management of the Banyantree Apartment was not helping. "That's it when it was by the wall," said LaPorsha Jones, as she showed pictures of scorpions on her phone.Jones said she has lived in the complex since April, and has found dozens of scorpions on her own. She even sought out help from pest control workers on the property. She says they told her something shocking."He caught 1,052 [scorpions] and he said, that's not even half of them," Jones said.On top of the scorpions, we noticed more problems all across Jones's apartment.There was what appeared to be black mold in the bathroom, and more in the window sill in the living room. She pointed out brown water leaking from her refrigerator, and told us she got sick from using the tap water to cook. She now uses only bottled water. Jones said she had asked management to fix all of these issues, as well as the scorpions, but nothing has been resolved.So, our reporter walked into the office and asked for the manager.A woman sitting at the front desk went to get her, but about a minute later there was a major change in tone. That same woman told our crew there would be no interview. They gave us a number to call for a comment, but after calling and leaving a voicemail, no one ever returned our calls for answers.So, we took action and went above their head to get help for this woman. A hardship that some are finding difficult to overcome."Economically, it's been devastating to us. We opened up our gym three years ago and sort of like a little miracle. We took over an existing gym that was probably not fitting the community. We came in there with our life savings, we opened up this beautiful gym and we were becoming very successful," said John Pena, the owner of GYM NYC in New York City.Pena says their business was shut down for nearly six months. Now, he's finally excited to reopen. Pena applied for and received money from the Paycheck Protection Program but it only did so much. "There is no income coming in from the business, obviously. The extra 0 on the unemployment has really been a big help but that’s going away. I’ve been able to pay my bills and that's it," said Pena. Pena and other gym owners in New York are hoping for more government help for small businesses to help them get back on their feet."In general, I think there is a set of overhead expenses that I’m sure owners in any industry would tell you play a huge factor. Rent, utilities, payroll, insurance etc., and those are fixed costs that you sort of wonder whether they’ll be any concessions made," said Elvira Yambot, COO of Tone House.In Tennessee, the Shelby County Commission is offering small brick and mortar businesses ,000 each as part of the Beautiful Comeback Grant. "It applies to any business that is in the personal care contact industry. So right off the bat you'd think of barber shops, beauty salons, nail salons but you also think about people who work in the massage industry, as well," said Shelby County Commissioner Mickell Lowery.Gyms also qualify, along with any other business where close physical contact with clients is required."Even when they’re allowed to open they still have to incur additional costs because now they have to open under certain stipulations. You have to have either have PPE which we all have to have now, you have to have that, that's a cost you might have to have, disposable capes and that nature, maybe plexiglass between you and a client, things of that nature depending what type of work you’re doing," said Lowery. Commissioner Lowery hopes other local governments across the country are also able to give something back to small businesses."If you're going to tell businesses to shut down, you have to give me something back so I don't starve," says Pena. For Pena, he's concerned that not helping businesses reopen could have a devastating economic impact. "The quicker we can get back on our feet, the quicker we can get back and people can start walking around and feeling confident, because not making any money, not being able to feed your family is far worse than this coronavirus," said Pena. 2929
