SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Chula Vista boasts several dog-friendly spots to take fido out for a play date or walk.Thankfully, the city sits in one of the most dog-friendly regions of the country, making choices for dog owners easy.Here are some parks in the South Bay that give pooches plenty of space to run, socialize, and play in the sun.Otay Ranch Town Center Dog Park (2015 Birch Rd.): Otay Ranch dog park features about 10,000-square-feet of open space for dogs to play. The park is close to dog-friendly retail and dining options in the town center too.Montevalle Park (840 Duncan Ranch Rd.): Dogs get plenty of space to play at Montevalle Park, including a separate area for small dogs, doggie water stations, and waste cleanup areas.Mount San Miguel Park (2335 Paseo Veracruz): Mount San Miguel Park features separate large and small dog areas and water for both dogs and humans.Orange Park (1475 Fourth Ave.): Provides a spot for doggos to run and roll around in dirt near the park's athletic fields. 1010

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Coaster service through San Diego County will be unavailable for two weekends this month.To give crews time to complete infrastructure improvements along the rail corridor, North County Transit District announced Coaster service from Oct. 19-20 and 26-27 would be shut down.On Fridays before the closures, southbound Amtrak R2R trains A792 and A796 will make their trips to Santa Fe Depot, but Amtrak train A590 will stop at Oceanside Transit Center.During the service shut down, Amtrak Pacific Surfliner and Metrolink will not provide service to Oceanside Transit Center. Trips on connecting buses will need an Amtrak reservation. Amtrak bus services will also need an Amtrak reservation. Rail 2 Rail passes are not eligible.Bus service connecting Coaster stations will not be available, but some passengers may have BREEZE Route 101 or MTS connections available.While no passenger rail service will operate on the corridor during these times, other vehicles and equipment will be in use. Pedestrians and drivers should still look out for equipment in the area.Service will resume on the Mondays after the closures but may experience delays up to 15 minutes. 1186

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — County officials closed a portion of La Jolla's coastline after a sewage spill Friday morning.The closure was issued for the area of Playa Del Norte in Windansea, near the 7000 block of Neptune Pl., after a sewage spilled before 9:30 a.m.Seven year La Jolla resident Marc Hirschfield said he was walking his dogs Saturday morning when he noticed the yellow warning signs dotting the beach and asked lifeguards what happened. He said they told him "there was a manhole cover that overflowed and raw sewage spilled into the ocean."Lifeguards told 10News it was a storm drain to blame in the same area.The spill has been contained, according to the County Department of Environmental Health, but there still may be impacts to water quality after 130 gallons of sewage entered the beach area.Warning signs have been placed in the area until samples of the ocean water indicate the water is safe for recreational use. It's not clear how long the area will remain closed.Some beach-goers ignored the signs, others, like surfer Cole Reiner just didn't see them. "Well I went out into the water. I mean contaminated doesn’t sound great, but I was out there and it says may cause illness so that’s not great," he said. Lifeguards couldn't say when the beach would reopen. As of 4:30p.m. the county said the beach was still closed."City life guards recommend 72 hours so for me it’ll probably be 48," HIrschfield said. 1435

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Broadway San Diego lifted the curtain on its upcoming season Thursday, revealing Tony Award-winning productions and the return of small-stage favorites.Grammy and Tony Award-winning "The Band's Visit" starts the season with a six-night run beginning Sept. 8, followed by the pre-Broadway run of "1779," Tony Award-winners "Hadestown" in January 2021 and "The Cher Show" in March 2021.Movie-turned-Broadway productions "Tootsie" and "Pretty Woman: The Musical" will also arrive to San Diego's stage in May 2021 and June 2021, respectively. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Chicken Charlie Boghosian is best known for the deep-fried concoctions he cooks up at the San Diego County Fair.But with fairs off the table for 2020, his work has taken a turn. Instead, he's set up a Christmas tree farm in the parking lot of Grossmont Center, with a pop-up eatery right next to it. "We're just trying to stay busy and trying to make money to keep the employees working and myself to keep playing the bills," Boghosian said. This — just one of the unique things happening in 2020 at malls across the county — which normally are preparing all sorts of events to welcome holiday shoppers."We feel with our outdoor setting, our big, wide-open spaces to walk, shopping here is as safe as it could be in this time," said Trevor Moore, marketing director at Grossmont Center.Moore said the mall had to cancel traditional events, including Santa's appearances, in exchange for a series of socially distant ones. On Thursday, it held a blood drive with hundreds of appointments.But Moore said the holiday decorations are up, the music is playing, and the mall's giving out free masks.Larger retailers, such as Best Buy and Target, have spread out their Black Friday specials over days or weeks. However, the retailers are under capacity limitations amid coronavirus restrictions. While that could hit the bottom line, customers who do go may benefit."A lot of consumers don't want to be bothered but if there is a question, there will be somebody there to answer that question and you're not going to go around the store trying to find somebody," said Miro Copic, a marketing professor at San Diego State University.Copic said the question moving forward is whether in 2021, whether consumers who buy all online this year come back to the malls, or whether their habits changed forever. 1822
