BOX ELDER COUNTY, Utah -- The Utah community is mourning the loss of one of its own, a U.S. Air Force pilot from the state who died during a routine training mission off the northern coast of England.1st Lt. Kenneth “Kage” Allen grew up in Box Elder County, but recently moved overseas where he was serving with the 48th Fighter Wing based in the U.K.He had been there for a little over three months when his plane crashed during the training mission.“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our airman and mourn with his family and his fellow reapers in the 493rd Fighter Squadron,” said Col. Will Marshall, Commander of the 48th Fighter Wing.Marshall said Allen was the assistant chief of weapons and tactics for the 493rd Fighter Squadron.On Monday morning, Allen was flying a F-15C Eagle at about 9:40 a.m. when the aircraft crashed into the North Sea.“The outpouring of love and respect from our communities has been a ray of light in this time of darkness,” said Marshall.Allen's death comes just one day after his 27th birthday, and just one week after he recorded himself singing “Time in a Bottle” for his new bride.“Oh my sweetheart Kage,” wrote Hannah Allen on Facebook. “I think I could fill an ocean with the tears I’ve cried today.”The couple were married on Feb. 20, right before Allen joined the 48th Fighter Wing.Family members wrote on Facebook that Lt. Allen was waiting for his wife to join him in England once COVID-19 restrictions allowed.“I never knew a heart could shatter like this,” Hannah wrote. “But I’ve promised you today that the rest of my life will be a tribute to you.”In a tweet, Gov. Gary Herbert paid tribute to Lt. Allen, saying: “He was a Utahn dedicated to making a difference in the world, and kept his virtue through both triumph and disaster.” 1792

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — At least two protesters were struck by a vehicle Monday during a demonstration against racism in Bloomington.The incident happened around 9 p.m. Monday in the area of 6th and Walnut in Bloomington near the Monroe County Courthouse as the protest was wrapping up.Hundreds of people had been taking part in a rally and protest march through Bloomington in response to an alleged racist attack at nearby Lake Monroe over the weekend. In that incident, which was caught on video, several men attack and allegedly threatened to lynch Vauhxx Booker, a Monroe County Human Rights commissioner.Geoff Stewart was one of the two people struck by the vehicle during Monday's protest."A woman driving the vehicle came up to the stop and had started revving her engine toward us, and we tried to stop her and let her know that the crowd is clearing up," Stewart said. "But, she and her passenger both wanted to go right away, so they started to push. They pushed into the woman that was with me and when she pushed again both of us went on the vehicle."Stewart said when the driver started to accelerate, the woman he was with ended up on the hood of the vehicle, and he ended up hanging off the driver's side of the vehicle."I was just trying to block her vision so she would slow down, so I tried to pull myself as far in her way to obstruct her view," Stewart said. "She drove through red lights and made her turn up here that threw both of us off the car."One protester was transported to the hospital with injuries, and another was checked at the scene. BERLIN (AP) — German pharma giant Bayer says it’s paying up to .9 billion to settle a lawsuit over subsidiary Monsanto’s weedkiller Roundup.Monsanto has faced numerous lawsuits over claims it causes cancer.In a statement Wednesday, Bayer said it was also paying up .22 billion to settle two further cases, one involving PCB in water.The Leverkusen, Germany-based company said the Roundup settlement would “bring closure to approximately 75%” of the current 125,000 filed and unfiled claims.The company said the settlement also puts a mechanism in place to resolve potential future claims efficiently.It said the agreement is subject to approval by Judge Vince Chhabria of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.“First and foremost, the Roundup settlement is the right action at the right time for Bayer to bring a long period of uncertainty to an end,” said Werner Baumann, Chief Executive Officer of Bayer. “It resolves most current claims and puts in place a clear mechanism to manage risks of potential future litigation. It is financially reasonable when viewed against the significant financial risks of continued, multi-year litigation and the related impacts to our reputation and to our business. The decision to resolve the Roundup litigation enables us to focus fully on the critical supply of healthcare and food.
