SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego's Maritime Museum is giving families the chance to spend the night on the seas — but stay in San Diego.The museum's "Family Overnight" program offers a stay aboard the Star of India, the oldest active sailing ship in the world. Families will embark on imaginary voyage learning about the lives and times of the India's passengers in the 19th century.Instructors will be in character and in costume, as they teach various ship-centric tasks like moving cargo and raising sails. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Unified School District's Board of Education approved million in safety upgrades this week.The upgrades will be expedited for installation as well, and include things like security cameras, fencing, locks and gates, and notification systems."We proposed several significant changes that were adopted by the Board of Education at its meeting this week. These changes include fast-tracking several security upgrades at school sites. They also include a move to an 'options-based' model of handling actual threats," a letter to parents from Superintendent Cindy Marten said.RELATED: DA: Nine minors charged in recent threats to local schools"We were impressed this week with the determination our students showed in refusing to allow mass school violence to become accepted as the 'new normal.' We share their determination and we are inspired by their example," Marten added.A date was not given as to when the improvements would be issued.Since the Parkland, Fla., school shooting in February, there have been at least 19 cases of school threats in San Diego County. So far, nine juveniles have been criminally charged in the cases.Marten said in the letter that parents have been reaching out since the Florida tragedy to offer suggestions to safety procedures at the district's schools.The district also focuses on improving school climates for students venerable from becoming disconnected from their peers, according to Marten. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego rolls out the red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple carpet in July for thousands of people who will be attending the Pride Festival headlined by Melissa Etheridge. The event, held Saturday and Sunday July 13 and 14, will take place at Balboa Park’s Marston Point on the corner of Sixth Avenue and Laurel Street. Festivalgoers can enjoy performances from more than 100 entertainers on multiple stages, food booths, vendors, and exhibits. General admission is for a weekend pass, with discounts available online before the event. Teens and children high-school aged and younger can get into the festival for free. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police, Chula Vista Police, and the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department reminded the public Friday about DUI enforcement scheduled for the Memorial Day weekend.16 people died and another 385 were injured in alcohol-related collisions during the holiday in 2016.Deputies said they would be conducting additional DUI patrols from Friday at 7 p.m. through early Tuesday morning.San Diego and Chula Vista Police said officers would also conduct extra patrols. Motorcycle and seat belt enforcement patrols were also planned for the weekend.Law enforcement agencies also warned drivers to be aware that driving under the influence of marijuana is also driving impaired."Don't put your life and those of others in danger by driving while impaired," said Sheriff Bill Gore. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Students and staff at Morse High School may have been exposed to tuberculosis, according to the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency. According to the agency, the periods of exposure were from June 17 to July 26 during summer school, then again from August 26 to September 10. Health officials and the San Diego Unified School District are working to notify those who may have been exposed. Testing will be provided on September 24 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Morse High School for students identified as potentially exposed. The district is providing testing to staff who may have been exposed. Tuberculosis is transmitted from person to person through indoor air during prolonged contact with someone who is infected. “It is important that we identify those who have had prolonged close contact in an enclosed space with the TB case and test them since the initial infection usually has no symptoms,” said Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., County public health officer. “Early diagnosis and prompt treatment can prevent the infectious form of the disease.”Symptoms of TB include persistent cough, fever, night sweats and unexplained weight loss.
