Two officers in Honolulu have been shot and killed Sunday, Hawai'i Gov. David Ige confirmed. The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports that officers were responding to an assault call near the base of Diamond Head when they encountered a male with a firearm, who then opened fire, striking two officers. The neighborhood where the shooting occurred is at the far end of the Waikiki Beach between the Honolulu Zoo and the famed Diamond Head State Monument. The area would be packed with tourists and locals, especially on a weekend. A home the suspected gunman was believed to be inside has been engulfed by flames. "As we express our condolences to their families, friends and colleagues, let us also come together to help and support those who have been forever changed by this tragedy," Ige said.Footage from news cameras show that multiple homes were on fire. The Star-Advertiser reported that 12 homes were affected by the fire, five of them destroyed. The Star-Advertiser reported that the sounds of live ammunition exploding from the fire could be heard near the scene.Honolulu's Mayor Kirk Caldwell issued a statement. "I would like to express my deepest condolences to the family and friends of the two officers as well as the entire Honolulu Police Department. This is an unprecedented tragedy for not only the City and County of Honolulu but the entire state of Hawai’i," Caldwell said. "Our office is in communication with the Honolulu Police Department as more details about the circumstances around this horrific event come to light. Our hearts go out to the first responders who are on the scene as this event unfolds." 1640

When former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was arrested on Friday on third-degree murder charges, more details emerged on how George Floyd died while in police custody on Monday. According to a report prepared by prosecutors in Hennepin County, Minnesota, Chauvin knelt on Floyd’s neck for eight minutes, 46 seconds. For the final two minutes and 53 seconds, prosecutors said, Floyd was unresponsive. Police body cams showed that at 8:24:24, Floyd stopped moving. At 8:25:31, video showed that Floyd stopped talking and breathing. It was not until 8:27:24 when video showed that Chauvin removed his knee from Floyd’s neck, prosecutors said. The prosecution’s report said that “police are trained that this type of restraint with a subject in a prone position is inherently dangerous.”After Chauvin lifted his knee, Floyd was placed on a gurney and taken to the hospital, where he pronounced dead. The county medical examiner reported to prosecutors that several factors likely contributed to Floyd’s death. “The autopsy revealed no physical findings that support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxia or strangulation,” the report read. "Mr. Floyd had underlying health conditions including coronary artery disease and hypertensive heart disease. The combined effects of Mr. Floyd being restrained by the police, his underlying health conditions and any potential intoxicants in his system likely contributed to his death.”To read the full arrest report, click 1479

Two men were attacked by sharks off the eastern coast of Florida. The incidents occurred within an hour of one another, 100 miles apart. The first attack took place around 3:30 p.m. ET Saturday near Jacksonville Beach Pier, according to a witness. RJ Berger said he and his friend Frank O'Rourke were surfing together when a shark knocked O'Rourke off of his board and into the water. The four-foot shark then bit O'Rourke on the arm, Berger said. The two men managed to catch waves back to shore, where a lifeguard treated O'Rourke for his injuries.Instead of heading straight to the hospital, the two men decided to go to a bar, Berger said, where the shark attack earned the pair lots of free drinks."Everyone's like, 'you got bit by a shark, I'll buy you all the drinks you want,'" Berger told CNN.O'Rourke is a professional surfer and eager to get back out in water. He planned to see a doctor on Sunday and could probably use a stitch or two, Berger said.Bitten while boogie boardingThe second attack happened around 4:30 p.m. ET at New Smyrna Beach, about 100 miles south of the first. An 49-year-old man was bitten in the leg while boogie boarding, Volusia County Beach Safety said in a statement. The man was treated on the scene for lacerations to his right thigh, the statement said. He then drove himself to Bert Fish Medical Center for additional treatment.Berger say the shark that bit O'Rouke and believes it was a blacktip shark.
