BOWIE, Maryland — Some students at Bowie High School in Prince George's County may face charges for a senior prank they pulled at the school last week.About 20 seniors stormed the school's hallways, taking part in what was meant to look like a school shooting.The seniors used fireworks and water guns and were wearing black masks, according to a letter from the school.The school was evacuated.One student was burned by the fireworks and also treated for an asthma attack.The father of that student was shocked to learn what had happened."I don't know what had to go through somebody's mind to pull of a prank like this in this day and age, so close to Parkland and two days later they had a shooting today down in Texas," said Steve Birckhead, father of the injured student. "These kids just weren't thinking."School officials say the students who participated in the prank will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. 952

BUFFALO GROVE, Ill. – Millions of teachers are headed back to the classroom. But for many of them, it’s all remote. That means trying to teach through a screen. One teacher needed a way for his students to see what he was writing while still allowing them to see him teach. So, he came up with an innovative solution with a couple of pieces of wood and some imagination.With a miter saw, drill press and belt sander at the ready, Bob Pinta converted his home’s garage into a bustling workshop.The high school math and computer science teacher is solving an online teaching problem one contraption at a time.“I would be teaching, I could use my pen and share the screen, but no matter how good of a stylus you get, writing on the iPad is not the same as write it on paper,” said Pinta.Pinta found that his students could either see what he was writing or him, but not both. So, he designed a phone stand that could act as a virtual overhead projector.“I would join the zoom on my phone pointing the phone down at the table and I would have the students pin my hand so that it was the big one,” he explained.He says the height adjustable stand allows for a much more interactive lesson.“So, they would be able to follow along as I went, and they could see both my face and the paper as I zoom.”His wife posted a video to see if other teachers might be interested in one. It quickly racked up tens of thousands of views with orders pouring in from all over.“We have shipped across the United States.”Each weekend, they sit in the driveway for teachers wishing to pick one up in person. BLOOMINGTON — The mother of an Indiana University football player who is battling COVID-19 wants everyone to realize the importance of wearing a mask and practicing social distancing.Brady Feeney is a freshman offensive lineman for the Hooisers from St. Louis. His mother, Debbie Rucker, took to Facebook Monday with a plea: Take COVID-19 seriously, wear a mask and exercise social distancing.Feeney is battling the virus as questions remain on whether the college football season will be played this fall. The Big Ten announced it plans on playing a conference-only schedule this fall. With her son's permission, Rucker shared his story:My son was negative when he got tested at the beginning of volunteer workouts. Within three weeks he and multiple others tested positive. His university has done everything right by shutting down workouts and retesting the whole team.Unfortunately this virus hit my son very hard compared to most of his teammates. Here was a kid in perfect health, great physical condition and due to the virus ended up going to the ER because of breathing issues.After 14 days of hell battling the horrible virus, his school did additional testing on all those that were positive. My son even received extra tests because he was one of the worst cases. Now we are dealing with possible heart issues!He is still experiencing additional symptoms and his blood work is indicating additional problems. Bottom line, even if your son’s schools do everything right to protect them, they CAN’T PROTECT THEM!!I pray my son recovers from this horrible virus and can lead a healthy normal life!! BOSTONIA (CNS) - A 29-year-old woman was killed in a two-car collision in a neighborhood just north of El Cajon Friday, authorities reported.The woman was making a left turn from northbound Peerless Drive onto westbound Pepper Drive in the Bostonia area when her 2000 Chevrolet Malibu was struck broadside by an eastbound 2003 Volkswagen Passat shortly before 7:30 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.Medics took the mortally injured El Cajon resident to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, CHP public affairs Officer Travis Garrow said.Her name was withheld pending family notification.The driver of the Volkswagen, a 22-year-old El Cajon man, suffered minor injuries in the crash, Garrow said.Investigators were attempting to determine which driver was at fault. 805
