FREDERICK, Colorado — Family friends of the Watts family say they're dumbfounded, confused, lost. The man who hosted Chris Watts and his little girls for a kid’s birthday party just days before they vanished said Thursday he is still trying to process everything that's happened since.  Jeremy Lindstrom offers a new perspective on who Chris Watts was, before the man allegedly confessed?to murdering his wife and the couple's two daughters.“You know, the hardest part about it all is — when you're closer to the family... is the 'why?'” Lindstrom said. “The why gets bigger."Why did Lindstrom's good friend, Chris, allegedly murder his entire family?"We're dumbfounded,” Lindstrom said Thursday night. “We don't get it. Lost."PHOTOS: Chris Watts arrested, charged for family deathsWhile attending the party at Lindstrom's home, the girls were happy. They were normal. And so was Chris — or so it seemed."He would reach out and help anybody that needed help with anything,” Lindstrom said. “He was a good mechanic if you needed help with your car — he'd help you. If you needed help with furniture, he'd be over there in a heartbeat to help you out. You don't know what, when, why, where or how everything goes weird."And Lindstrom says we may never know, exactly."It's just horrible,” he said. “Why do people do this? Why does it come down to this? There had to have been an easier route." 1437

FLAGSTAFF — Steven Jones has pleaded guilty to manslaughter and three counts of aggravated assault in a 2015 deadly shooting in Flagstaff. As part of the agreement, Jones will be sentenced to between 5 and ten years in prison. He must serve at least 85 percent of the time.Steven Jones, a Northern Arizona University student at the time, opened fire on the group of people in 2015 after he says he was attacked over a small prank between two rival fraternities. The fight started after Jones and two pledges from his fraternity carried out a prank by ringing the doorbell of an apartment and running away. The prank set off a fight between Jones and students in the apartment from a rival fraternity, and Jones got punched in the face.RELATED: Body camera video reveals chaos of NAU shootingSan Diego native shot at Arizona college is homeJones admitted to shooting and killing Colin Brough but told police he did it out of self-defense. The prosecutors, however, said that Jones could have left the area and did not need to resort to using a weapon.Jones had said he went back toward the group and fired his gun, but he didn't mean to hurt anyone. He testified he fired several shots "to stop the immediate threat that was coming at me."The case originally went to a jury but was declared a mistrial in 2017 because a unanimous verdict couldn’t be released.Family of the victims in the shooting have reportedly agreed to the plea deal as well. A sentencing hearing is set for February 11. 1495

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – A school bus driver in Massachusetts says he was inspired by the students he drove to earn his college degree and pursue his dream of becoming a teacher. After high school, Clayton Ward attended college in Virginia, but the demands of school and work took their toll on him and he left after a few semesters.Eventually, he started driving a school bus for the City of Framingham and talking to the students on his route every day renewed his sense of passion for expanding and teaching young minds. So, he enrolled at MassBay Community College in 2019 with the goal of earning his degree, transferring to a four-year institution, and someday teaching high school history.MassBay says Ward worked full-time driving the bus, while also attending classes full-time at the community college. He excelled and earned a spot on the dean’s list every semester. He also did all of this during the COVID-19 pandemic.“It wasn’t always easy," said Ward. "I would drive my route in the morning and afternoon, take a class in between shifts, and take night classes and classes online to complete my degree requirements. I would think of those students and all the years I wanted to make this happen, and it helped me focus my energy.”In just one year, Ward completed his associate in arts degree in liberal arts and he plans to transfer to Framingham State University in the fall to pursue his bachelor’s degree in history, with a minor in secondary education.“I really enjoy working with kids, especially the high school students, and during the bus routes, we would chat about their classes,” said Ward. “As a history buff, I would share lessons that I learned in school and we talked a lot about academics. After several of these discussions, some of the students would tell me they wanted me to be their teacher. I think they only said that because I was a different person than their regular teachers, educating them in a different way to pique their interest. But, however small that mention was from those kids… it stuck with me and gave me the motivation to complete a goal I had started years ago.” 2119

Former NFL quarterback Johnny Manziel is slated to take his talents north of the border, as Manziel announced on Saturday he has signed a contract with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the CFL. Manziel has faced challenges both on and off the football field since winning the 2012 Heisman Trophy. In 2016, Manziel was charged with domestic violence. Those charges were later dismissed. Also in 2016, Manziel was suspended for four games for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. After an impressive collegiate stint at Texas A&M, Manziel's football career quickly flamed out. Manziel hasn't played professional football since 2015, when he was a member of the Cleveland Browns. Over two seasons, Manziel played in 15 games, and threw seven touchdowns and seven interceptions. "I don't want to wait around any more," Manziel said on Saturday. "I want to get on the field and get in the locker room and get a chance to play ball again. This is the best opportunity for me." Manziel said he is grateful for a second chance at professional football. Manziel is expected not to start at quarterback Hamilton, coach June Jones said. He will compete for the backup job behind former Oregon star Jeremiah Masoli. "Johnny is going to be a competitive player in this league," Jones said. "I feel he'll compete and competition makes everyone better."Manziel said he is ready to move forward and has learned from past missteps. "I have learned a lot from the mistakes. I feel like I wouldn't be where I am today on a personal, on a football level, going back into a locker room, if I didn't go through what I went through," Manziel said. "I am back to a point in my life where I am not taking anything for granted."One name mentioned in Manziel's press conference in Hamilton was Doug Flutie. Both Flutie and Manziel won the Heisman Trophy and went to the CFL after initial struggles in the NFL out of college. Flutie revitalized his career in Canada winning three Grey Cups. When Flutie returned to the NFL, he became a Pro Bowler. While Manziel would like another chance at the NFL, he said he will be with Hamilton for the "long haul."  2253

For those who have a job they can do from home, plans to go back to the office full-time continue to get pushed back.If they weren't feeling burnt out before, experts with staffing firm Robert Half say you could be feeling it set in now.“If you don't raise your hand and have a really open and honest dialogue, you could continue to feel that way and that burnout can manifest itself in you missing deadlines, in you skipping work, needing to take vacation time and it really can be a weight that bears on you,” said Brett Good, Sr. District President at Robert Half.He says your boss should be receptive. Many of them are feeling the same way. That burnout can feel heavier because many people are afraid to take vacation.A new survey from LinkedIn found nearly 70% of professionals don't plan to take time off through the end of the year or aren't sure if they will.More than half say they're afraid to travel because of the risks associated with COVID-19 and 22% want to save their vacation time in case they or a family member gets sick.Even for people planning to take vacation, a quarter say they feel more pressure at work to be always-on because of the current state of the economy. If you're looking for a job right now, expect to see more openings that let you work from anywhere.“Most employers that we're chatting with right now are very upfront of saying, ‘yes we're ok with remote right now, but ultimately we will want that person to be working in our facility or one of our facilities,’ and so you have to ask the question to be sure if you're interviewing with an employer of what does it look like in 12, 24 months who knows how long,” said Good.Experts at Robert Half say they expect to see more work-from-home jobs long-term, even after the pandemic. 1776
