An ICE officer opened fire and wounded a man in a Tennessee grocery store parking lot as the officer attempted to make an immigration arrest Thursday. The officer fired two shots after a driver he was trying to arrest during a fugitive operation drove toward the officer while fleeing the scene, ICE spokesman Bryan Cox said, citing initial reports. While ICE operations are a regular occurrence across the United States, it's rare to hear of shots fired in public places as they unfold. The FBI said a Mexican national was struck by gunfire in a Food Lion parking lot outside Nashville in Antioch. He turned himself in later and was receiving medical attention at a local hospital. The individual was not arrested and has not been charged by the FBI."Conclusions about the shooting incident should not be drawn until the investigation is complete," the agency said.An FBI spokesperson earlier said the agency is now investigating a possible assault on a federal officer. The FBI is the lead agency in the investigation, Cox said, and federal prosecutors will decide whether any criminal charges are filed.ICE's Office of Professional Responsibility, which looks into all officer-involved shootings involving ICE, also is investigating, Cox said.Investigators cordoned off the parking lot with crime scene tape and combed the scene for evidence. The target of Thursday's ICE operation was a 39-year-old Mexican national who'd been deported multiple times, Cox said. The truck he was driving is now in FBI custody, said Matt Foster, assistant special agent in charge of the FBI's Nashville office. The vehicle was found abandoned with blood inside, an ICE official said.Nashville Mayor David Briley slammed the shooting in a statement, 1741

Apple unveiled its latest slate of iPhones on Tuesday at a widely-covered media event at its campus in Cupertino, California. The new lineup includes the iPhone 11, an entry-level device, as well as the higher-end iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max, which have four-figure price tags. The company's iPhone sales have slumped in recent quarters in part because consumers are waiting longer to upgrade their smartphones. So, is it actually worth it to upgrade to these new models? The short answer: It depends how much you care about better cameras and improved battery life. Here's a look at the key differences between the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro and two comparable models from the previous year: the iPhone XR, which was the low-end model released in 2018, and the iPhone XS, the higher-end model that year.PriceiPhone 11: Starts at 9iPhone XR: Starts at 9 (originally 9)iPhone 11 Pro: Starts at 9iPhone XS: Like the 11 Pro, the XS originally started at 9. AVILA BEACH, Cali. – The ocean has healing powers and for some former soldiers, it can help wash away the ugliness of war. U.S. veteran Ash Legion had a hard time transitioning to life outside the military. “For a long time, it was just a race to get blacked out,” said the former Marine Corps. Sgt.Now with the help of Operation Surf, a surf camp designed to help veterans, Legion has been able to step out of the darkness by stepping into the water. “I’m in a good place. Everybody is having a good time. Party wave!” said Legion. “It’s given me so much than I could have imagined. Honestly when I moved here, I had a wetsuit and I had no one to surf with. I had no friends. I didn’t know anybody here and then I met Dan.Dan Szentesi, lead surf instructor for Operation Surf, has spent the past seven years teaching veterans how to ride waves. “I don’t want to sound cliché, but a lot of people talk about how it saves their life,” said Szentesi.Operation Surf is now in its 10th year – and is growing, going from a weekend event once a year to now operating nearly year-round in northern, central and southern California.“Watching people catch their first wave is pretty amazing. It’s like a light goes off and people tend to feel like it’s something that they haven’t experienced before…something they’ve been missing,” said Szentesi. After finding surfing, these veterans say they can’t imagine life without it. “It’s made a big difference. I found my solace again,” said Ron Holtgrew, who was a Lance Corporal in the Marine Corps.Once a week, Holtgrew drives two hours from Fresno to the central coast to get in the ocean. “I was one of those vets who didn’t think that I needed this program. I went through it and once I figured out what they were trying to do here with the healing powers of the ocean. I don’t stop coming,” said Holtgrew. The healing powers can help rinse away pain and PTSD. “It’s pretty damn close to a gun fight,” said Jordan Meyers, a U.S. veteran. “Just sheer adrenaline but you come out smiling instead of coming out kind of messed up in the head.”Operation Surf’s funding comes completely from donations and grants – investments in the sport and the soul. “As a spouse of a veteran myself, I started witnessing my husband come home, he smiled a little bit more, he laughed, he was telling me who he was surfing with how he got that epic left,” said Mackenzie Rana with Operation Surf. And finally feeling right by helping these vets transition from soldiers to civilians – and now surfers. “It’s so healing on so many levels, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, this is the healthiest lifestyle I’ve ever lives.” 2656
