SAN RAMON, Calif. (AP) — Apple is rolling out new Mac computers powered by the same kind of chips that run iPhones and iPads, a move aimed at making it easier for its most popular products to work together.Macs using the new chips will run the same apps designed for the iPhone's mobile operating system. However, it appears some developers aren't immediately keen on making those apps available for Macs.Apple said the three new Macintosh computers are powered by what they're calling its "most powerful chip" ever, the created in-house M1.The MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, and the Mac Mini, available for preorder now and in stores next week, start at 9, ,299, and 9, respectively. With the new chip, the MacBook Air, Apple's entry-level laptop, and the company's best-seller will have a "fanless" design that results in it being hushed. The battery life on the MacBook Air is the "longest battery life ever.""Studio-quality" microphones and improved video performance, will be available on the Macbook Pro, allowing you to have clearer video meetings, Apple said. The Mac mini, which hasn't been updated since 2018, will be three times faster on performance, Apple promises, will deliver a six-fold increase in graphics performance that will allow it to "tackle performance-intensive tasks like complex 3D rendering with ease."The mini will come in two editions, one for 9 with 256 GB of storage or 9 with 512 GB.Although analysts expect more cross-pollination, Apple didn't demonstrate any other interoperability features based on the new chips. The new Mac chips promise faster processing speeds, sleeker designs, and longer battery life. 1666

SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) - Customs and Border Protection closed three lanes of traffic heading into the United States from Mexico Tuesday morning. In a statement, CBP said it was “to install and pre-position port hardening infrastructure equipment in preparation for the migrant caravan.”One lane of traffic was also closed at the Otay Mesa port of entry. It comes as active-duty troops have been working to add barricades and fencing as part of “Operation Secure Line.”On Tuesday, troops could be seen moving barriers covered with barbed wire along the border, periodically closing the southbound lanes into Mexico. In their statement, CBP officials warned “persons traveling northbound to the U.S. anticipate possible increased wait times because of the lane closures.”Even before the lanes were closed, wait times of six to seven hours had been reported at peak times in the standard lanes. Part of that was due to traffic control by authorities on the Mexican side.Travel as a pedestrian, however, has not appeared to be affected.Rebecca Fodor walked across Tuesday night and said it only took a few minutes. She said she did notice armed troops in camouflage uniforms.“It didn’t really change anything. I think they were just watching for anything suspicious,” she said. The lane closures will remain in effect indefinitely. CBP says reopening “is not anticipated to take place until sometime after people in the caravan arrive to the border.”  1469

SARASOTA, Fla. — A Florida woman says she fell ill with COVID-19 and passed the coronavirus onto her 99-year-old mother who lives with her.Ruta Jouniari said she felt sick in October. She had a fever, cough and headache."I literally couldn't breathe. I tried to take a breath and the pain in my lungs was so incredible," she said.Jouniari was hospitalized at Sarasota Memorial Hospital for three days, but did not need oxygen."The nights were horrific, you have night sweats, shivering. You're achy. You can't breathe," she said. Her mother, who Jouniari is the primary caregiver of in her home, later tested positive for COVID-19.Jouniari said her mother never left the house, so she knows she brought the virus home, but she doesn't know where she contracted it.Her mother's age put her at a high risk of contracting the virus. Her mother, she added, suffered from a stroke about seven years ago."The guilt trip that goes with a child giving their parent COVID is not a fun reality of life," she said.Jouniari said her mother was hospitalized for 10 days. She was on a ventilator in an intensive care unit. Doctors treated her mother with plasma, remdesivir and dexamethasone."Going in, it's so frightening and you're so scared and you're scared for yourself when you're the patient, but you're even more scared knowing the statistics of a 99-year-old going in," said Jouniari.Jouniari said her mother left the hospital on Monday."For her to come out and come home today and she's in her own room, her own bed, breathing on two liters of oxygen. It's just amazing," she said. She urges everyone to take precautions and protect the vulnerable population."I hate to say this, but you could kill them. I was witness to that. I could have. My mom is a miracle of miracles. She's a statistic anomaly. She shouldn't have made it and she did," said Jouniari. She said she appreciates everyone who prayed for her mother. She said she is also thankful for the doctors and nurses who cared for her mother."I had over 800 people praying for her and it was incredible...the power of that was just amazing," Jouniari said. "For those families who are suffering, I hope they have solace and peace, just pray hard and have faith just know that people at 99 make it out. She is a testament to that."This story was originally published by Julie Salomone at WFTS. 2352

Seattle Mayor Ed Murray announced his resignation Tuesday, hours after new sexual abuse allegations surfaced against the embattled politician. The mayor's announcement comes after his cousin gave an interview with the Seattle Times alleging abuse, the latest in a series of allegations against the mayor. The cousin is the fifth person to accuse Murray of child sexual abuse.Murray denied the allegations, as he has in the past. He said he was resigning effective 5 p.m. Wednesday so the scandal would no longer overshadow his office. In light of the latest allegations, he said it was clear it is best for the city for him to step aside."While the allegations against me are not true, it is important that my personal issues do not affect the ability of our city government to conduct the public's business," he said in a statement."To the people of this special city and to my dedicated staff, I am sorry for this painful situation."Council President Bruce Harrell will become mayor upon Murray's resignation, Murray said. Harrell has five days to decide to hold the position for the remainder of Murray's term, which ends in December.Murray was elected in 2014 after 18 years as a state lawmaker. He withdrew in May from the Seattle mayor's race, saying the campaign should be focused on issues, not scandal. 1328
