INDIANAPOLIS -- Warren Township, Indiana Schools says no students or teachers were seriously injured Wednesday when pepper spray was released inside a middle school.Medical responders were called to Stonybrook Middle School and Stonybrook Intermediate Academy around 2 p.m. Wednesday for a report of more than a dozen people affected in an apparent pepper spray release.According to Warren Township Schools, a student released the pepper spray inside the building – although it was not immediately clear whether the release was accidental.A district spokesman said 15 students and two teachers were affected by the pepper spray. All were checked out and released on scene by EMS.The school was temporarily evacuated following the incident and was back to normal conditions as of 2:30 p.m., the district said.School police were reportedly examining surveillance footage to determine how the pepper spray was released. 934

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana — Police have arrested an Indianapolis man on a charge of murder in connection with the death of his friend on the Near Eastside earlier this month.Dewayne Sims, 32, was taken into custody Thursday night on a warrant for charges of murder and being a felon carrying a handgun in connection with the death of 36-year-old Earl Whitney.Whitney was found shot and killed inside a home in the 500 block of North Tacoma Avenue just after 6:30 p.m. on March 8.According to a probable cause affidavit filed Monday, a witness told police that Whitney had brought home his longtime friend, Sims. Both appeared to be possibly intoxicated, according to the witness.At one point in the evening, Whitney reportedly attempted to get Sims to leave. Sims, the witness said, had dozed off. When Whitney tried to rouse him, Sims reportedly said, “Who is you?”Whitney reportedly responded, “It’s me, cuz” – at which point Sims allegedly shot him. According to the witness, Sims shot Whitney once, paused, then shot him two more times. Sims then allegedly fled the residence.An autopsy of Whitney determined he died of a gunshot wound to the torso.According to the affidavit, Sims was on GPS monitoring through Marion County Community Corrections at the time the shooting took place. The device “reported insufficient,” though, meaning that it “did not have a clear view of satellites to report a valid location.”As of Friday evening, Sims was being held without bond at the Marion County Jail. It only took a little over 15 minutes for Ed Bledsoe to lose three lives that meant the world to him -- his wife and their two great-grandchildren.He had left his home in Shasta County, California, on Thursday to go to the doctor, he told CNN on Sunday. The Carr Fire had been burning for four days at that point and Bledsoe said he didn't realize the fire was coming into his neighborhood.He also said his family was never told to evacuate.While he was out, his 70-year-old wife, Melody Bledsoe, called and told him she could see the fire and that he needed to come get her and their great-grandchildren, 4-year-old Emily Roberts and 5-year-old James Roberts, who Ed Bledsoe called "Junior.""I said 'I'm on my way.'
