A 4-year-old girl and four family members are recovering after a bobcat attack on Mt. Graham. Two campgrounds are closed with Arizona Game and Fish trying to catch and kill the cat they suspect has rabies. Has more on what officials are calling an extreme and bizarre animal attack. Game and Fish says they won't know for sure until they catch and test the animal, but this is simply not the behavior of a healthy bobcat. They say it needs to be destroyed. “The behavior is extreme by any reasonable standard. This is not someone coming across a bobcat and quickly being bit and the bobcat running off, this is sustained attacks on human beings,” said Arizona Game and Fish Spokesperson Mark Hart. The Family camping on Mt. Graham survived a traumatic experience Sunday. “A year-old girl ran behind the tent, her mother heard screaming, and they came around the tent to see she was being attacked by a bobcat, on the ground bitten at least once in the head.”The girl's father, two uncles, and a teenage girl came to her aid and the bobcat attacked them too. Hart says mountain lions can target children, but a healthy bobcat never would. “A bobcat is going to be more interested in an antelope squirrel or a rodent, not a human being it’s too big, the child was bigger than the bobcat.”The girl was treated for rabies exposure at a nearby hospital. Her family needed to go to two other hospitals to get the vaccine. All have been released. “Once symptoms onset rabies is almost always fatal. If you are exhibiting symptoms the vaccine won't work but if you get it before symptoms onset your life will be saved.”Shannon and Snow Flat campgrounds have been closed to the public. “We are on scene today setting traps and using predator calls in an attempt to lure the bobcat in, it has to be destroyed.”Hart says rabies are more common in foxes, bats, and skunks but the disease can be spread to other animals. He says to stay away from dead animal remains because it can be passed that way also. 2006

A federal judge on Monday dismissed a lawsuit brought by President Donald Trump in his effort to block a subpoena issued by the Manhattan district attorney's office for eight years of Trump's tax returns, rejecting the President's "extraordinary" claim that any occupant of the White House enjoys "absolute immunity from criminal process of any kind."Describing Trump's argument as a "categorical and limitless assertion of Presidential immunity," US District Court Judge Victor Marrero wrote in an opinion that it "would constitute an overreach of executive power."Lawyers for Trump have indicated they would appeal the ruling.In September, after the lawsuit was filed, the district attorney's office agreed not to enforce the subpoena for a period of time that was set to expire Monday at 1 p.m. ET.The Manhattan District Attorney's Office, led by Cyrus Vance Jr., is examining hush money paid to two women who, during the 2016 presidential campaign, alleged having affairs with Trump a decade ago. Trump has denied having affairs with both women.The DA's office sent Trump's longtime accounting firm, Mazars USA, a grand jury subpoena seeking tax returns and related documents going back to 2011.Prosecutors are looking at whether the Trump Organization violated any New York state laws -- including potentially filing false business records -- in its effort to reimburse Michael Cohen, Trump's former attorney, who paid some of the hush money on Trump's behalf. The flood gates are now closed in New Orleans as the city braces for Tropical Storm Barry.Authorities have warned people in low-lying parts of Louisiana to evacuate. Rescue crews and National Guard troops are stationed across the city and state, preparing to assist in boat rescues. Earlier this week, heavy rain flooded the street and it may just be a preview of what’s to come as Barry gets stronger and moves closer to land. The storm is expected to make landfall in Louisiana early Saturday. New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell urged residents and tourists to shelter in place starting at 8 p.m. CT Friday. “So, I dunno what’s gonna happen,” says New Orleans business owner Sarah Corsiatto. “I think we are gonna get a lot of water in the city.” Corsiatto says she won't leave town, but she is staying with friends to be closer to her coffee shop."I’m gonna try to be open as long as I can,” she says. She says as the storm moves in, she’ll secure her shop with tape and sandbags. Nearby, some historic French Quarter businesses are prepping for the storm by putting out sandbags. Barry could strengthen to a hurricane, but it’s not the high winds that have residents and officials worried, says Benjamin Scott, with the National Weather Service. “It's the large amount of water,” he explains. “Take a look behind me. This is the Mississippi River, already strained from a season of flooding."Scott says the number one threat will be the heavy flooding and rainfall. The Mississippi River this time of year is usually at 6 to 8 feet, but right now, the river sits at 16 feet. The forecast is calling for 15 inches of rain in the city and possibly 25 inches elsewhere. Tourists in New Orleans are taking the warnings from officials seriously. Jacques Desormiere and his friends say they aren’t taking chances. They spent the day stocking up on essentials. “Water, we have a bunch of nuts and things,” he says. “We can cook and eat without electricity.” Desormiere says he and his friends will likely wait out the storm. A Japanese man who received his certificate as the world's oldest man with a raised fist and big smiles earlier this month has died at 112. Guinness World Records and a local funeral home said Chitetsu Watanabe died Sunday. We are saddened to learn of the passing of oldest man Chitetsu Watanabe, who was presented with his record title just two weeks ago. Our thoughts and condolences are with Mr. Watanabe’s family. 430

WASHINGTON, D.C. – When it comes to gun control in America, no state is confronting the issue harder right now than Virginia. For the first time in more than two decades, Virginia elected and just swore in a new state legislature controlled by Democrats. “Virginia is officially blue, congratulations,” said Gov. Ralph Northam, D-Virginia, on election night 2019. The new Democrat-controlled state legislature is vowing to pass gun control measures. That’s prompting some local governments to make their own moves by declaring themselves “Second Amendment Sanctuary” cities and counties. So far, more than 100 cities and counties in Virginia have declared themselves “Second Amendment Sanctuaries.” They’re not the only ones: from Florida to Colorado to Nevada and elsewhere, local municipalities are voting in favor of designating themselves “Second Amendment Sanctuaries.”But what does it even mean? Georgetown Law professor Mary McCord says what each declaration says varies from place to place. “Some are very much directly stating that county officials or city officials will not enforce state law that implicates or regulates, in any way, shape or form, gun ownership,” McCord said. “Others are simply espousing a support for second amendment rights.” In the end, though, she said the declarations do not hold up to legal scrutiny. “They really have no legal effect,” McCord said. “In Virginia, for example -- the Virginia Constitution and Virginia state law is very clear that it is the general assembly of the entire state -- not of any particular locality. The General Assembly makes the general laws and that those laws are supreme -- and any local ordinances resolutions, etc., that are inconsistent with those laws are void and have no effect.”Virginia’s attorney general has concluded the same thing and added that any gun control measures passed by the state legislature will be enforced. 1916
