EDGEWOOD, Ky. — “Cancer has touched everybody out there,” Kenton County Commonwealth’s Attorney Rob Sanders said Monday night. “Everyone knows someone who has suffered who could use charity.”His office believes 25-year-old Jessica Krecskay spent four years pretending to be that someone, swindling over ,000 out of well-intentioned supporters to cover medical expenses that didn’t exist.Krecskay was arrested Feb. 14 and charged with theft by deception, a felony offense punishable by up to 10 years in prison. The people who had supported her through her phony diagnosis were the ones to turn her in, Sanders said.“A couple years ago, we had another case where a young lady was prosecuted for receiving funds that were gotten under the mistaken belief that she had cancer,” he said, referring to the scandal surrounding Northern Kentucky University student Kelly Schmahl. The Delta Zeta sorority member 918

CORAOPOLIS, Pa. – The largest U.S. sporting goods retailer will stop selling guns at over 440 additional stores this year. The move by Dick's Sporting Goods follows a series of decisions to scale back gun sales. After the 2018 school shooting in Parkland, Florida, Dick's announced it would stop selling semi-automatic weapons.A few months later, Dick's pulled firearms and hunting accessories from 10 stores as a test and overall sales increased at those stores. And in March 2019, the company pulled guns and ammunition from 125 additional stores. Now, Dick's plans to nearly quadruple the number of its stores without guns.Walmart continues to be the world's largest gun retailer. 695

During a speech in Cape Canaveral, Florida, President Donald Trump addressed the ongoing anti-police brutality protests throughout the country, saying that he would not allow "radical left criminals, thugs and others" to "set communities ablaze.""We support the right of peaceful protesters, and we hear their pleas," Trump said. "But what we're seeing now in the streets of our cities has nothing to do with justice or peace."Trump said that he "stands in opposition to anyone using (Floyd's death) as an opportunity to loot and rob"Trump also called Floyd's death a "grave tragedy," and said that he spoke with Floyd's family earlier this week."(Floyd's death) should have never happened," Trump said.Trump has previously asked the Department of Justice to investigate Floyd's death. but also made clear that he and his administration "support the overwhelming majority of police officers." Earlier this week, Trump tweeted threatened to have the National Guard shoot at anyone looting at the site of protests across the country, adding that "when the looting starts, the shooting starts." Days after returning home from a Punta Cana vacation, Marie Trainer called out of work with a backache and nausea. Then her temperature spiked and dropped, sending her to a local Stark County, Ohio, emergency room in the early hours of May 11.When Trainer woke in a hospital bed nine days later, her hands and legs had been amputated. It took doctors seven days to discover Trainer incurred a severe infection, not from a "tropical" travel disease as they first suspected, but from her German shepherd's kisses.Trainer contracted a rare infection from the bacteria capnocytophaga canimorsus, probably when her German shepherd puppy, Taylor, licked an open cut.Dr. Margaret Kobe, the medical director of infectious disease at Aultman Hospital in Canton, Ohio, treated Trainer and described her as "delirious" when she entered the intensive care unit. Shortly after, she became unconscious. Her skin started changing rapidly to a purplish-red color, and then it progressed into gangrene. Trainer then developed a blood clot."It was difficult to identify, We're kind of the detectives. We went through all these diagnoses until we could narrow things down," Kobe said. The infection spread to the tip of her nose, ears, legs and face. "She didn't lose parts of her face. But her extremities is what she had to have surgery on," Kobe said. The family sought a second opinion, hoping to save Trainer's limbs. But doctors said the damage had already been done. Blood tests and cultures confirmed the diagnosis of capnocytophaga."That was a pretty hard pill for us to all swallow, to say she was fine a couple days ago on vacation and now she's actively getting worse by the minute and now her hands and feet aren't alive, like this doesn't happen, it's 2019," said Gina Premier, Trainer's step-daughter and a nurse at Aultman Hospital.Trainer has had eight surgeries so far and is working with doctors to be fitted for prostheses."This is off the scale, one of the worst cases we have seen in terms of how ill people become with infections," Kobe said. "She was close to death."A rare cause of illness in humansMarie Trainer says she knows her German shepherd puppy licked a slightly infected scratch. When the bacteria spread to humans, they do so through bites, scratches or other close contact with dogs and cats, according to the 2336
