Data released on Monday by the FBI shows a drop in violent crime in the US in 2019, continuing a trend in recent years.The FBI said that violent crimes in the US dropped 1 percent in 2019 compared to 2018. The improvement was the third straight year of a declining violent crime rate in the US.The FBI added that property crimes in the US dropped 4.5 percent from 2018.The amount of violent crime in the US has dropped significantly so far in the 21st century, per FBI data. In 2000, there were 506 reported instances of violent crimes per 100,000 people. In 2019, that number had dropped to 366 violent crimes per 100,000 people.The FBI has also reported a significant drop in property crimes over the years – for things like thefts and larcenies.“I am encouraged by the great work being done by law enforcement to combat violent crime across the nation,” said FBI Deputy Director Dave Bowdich. “The FBI continues to make clear that violence will not be tolerated, and we are committed to continuing our work with state, local, and tribal partners across the country to confront and deter violence, dismantle criminal organizations and gangs, eradicate drug trafficking, and bring justice to victims.” 1210

DENVER, Co. – The Durans' home is a family treasure. It’s been passed down through three generations. “My grandparents started this house and he finished it,” said Linda Duran of her father, Gerald Duran. “You name it, I did it,” laughed the Korean War Veteran about the hundreds of hours he’s poured into the family home over the years. This home not only represents a wonderful building achievement, but it’s a place where laughter and memories have been shared every single day. Stories of war, stories about school days and all that life brings in between. As their family grew, the home expanded. “I built this, I built that,” said Gerald pointing around the property. “With help, you know, you cannot do anything without help.” This year, Linda and her dad found their family needing a little help with their home once again. “There were a lot of things that needed work and especially, the safety,” said Linda. The outside doors didn’t close or lock, and the kitchen didn’t have working appliances. But COVID-19 made those repairs impossible to pay for after Linda lost her job. “Can't do anything anymore hardly,” said Gerald. “I want to go to bingo. No, I ain't got no money. Got to buy groceries. That's what's hard. That's what gets hard.” “You're not able to do the things you used to be able to do afford, because being on a fixed income and no income is detrimental,” said Linda. So, she reached out for help. “It’s an awful feeling because I’m not no spring chicken, so I just feel like, ‘Gosh at this point in my life, I should be able to help him more than I am,’” said Linda. A nonprofit called Rebuilding Together answered her prayers. The nationwide group connects contractors and volunteers willing to donate work and supplies for critical home repairs in their own communities. “The majority of people we help are older Americans, veterans or people with disabilities, and so they’re supposed to stay at home and shelter at home, and it’s kind of hard to do that if it’s not safe in their house,” said Jodie Liddy, who works with volunteers across Denver, Colorado. 2107

(KGTV) — While concerts are on hiatus during the pandemic, the Del Mar Fairgrounds will host several "concerts in your car" this fall.Acts including Dirty Heads, DJ Snoopadelic (aka Snoop Dogg), Slightly Stoopid, The Beach Boys, and more will take the stage at Del Mar between Sept. 25 and Nov. 1. Concerts will be held on a high, theater-in-the-round style, four-sided stage to give concertgoers a view of the show from any direction.Ticket prices for vehicles range based on the concert and which color-coded section you select. Many of the concerts start at per car for the furthest section from the stage. Large video screens have been added to each side of the stage.Passengers must not exceed the number of seats and seat belts in a vehicle, according to the concert series' producer. DENVER, Colo. — A Colorado man is trying to find the silver lining in the wildfires by turning his photography into an opportunity to help those affected most.Jeremy Janus was driving back to Denver from Rocky Mountain National Arsenal Friday and he couldn’t believe his eyes.“I saw the smoke plume coming toward Denver and as much as it pained me I knew I had to take photos of it,” Janus said.Janus captured four photos of the smokey skies enhancing the beauty of the sunset.“This photo is called the “Nature That Binds Us,” Janus said. “While I knew these trees were going to be fine, far off in the distance there is also a lot of wildlife and nature that’s also getting destroyed.”He got into photography four years ago to heal a battle with depression and anxiety. Now he runs his own business called Jeremy Janus Photography.“Because of my background where I came from in photography, being a light in the darkness, how do you make positive situations out of bad ones?” Janus said. “I don’t want to profit off of devastation.”Janus has agreed to sell the photos and donate the money to Denver7 Gives.Denver7 is working with United Way of Larimer County and Community Foundation of Boulder County to ensure every dollar raised helps Coloradans who have lost so much.“My heart broke just seeing this because it made me think about all the people affected by it, all the wildlife, wilderness,” he said.The photos start at .
