PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (KGTV) - The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway reopened to visitors Monday after storm damage that closed the popular attraction for almost two months. The Valentine’s Day storm severed the power feed to the mountain and washed out a road, according to tram officials. Crews spent weeks making necessary repairs and cleaning up damage. The closure kept 100,000 visitors away, tram officials estimate. The storm led to almost million in repair costs and lost revenues. “It’s been a long six weeks for everyone, but today we are delighted to finally welcome back Tram visitors. On behalf of the entire Tramway staff, we are thrilled to be back open for business and truly appreciate the community’s support throughout our closure,” said Tramway General Manager Nancy Nichols. The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, which is the world’s largest rotating tram car, opened in 1963. Its 80-passenger cars take travelers from the desert floor to the Mountain Station at an elevation of 8,516 feet in 10 minutes. Visitors can enjoy two restaurants, a natural history museum, documentary theaters, and hiking trails at the top. The tram opens at 10 a.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are .95 for adults and .95 for children ages 3 to 10. Ticket sales start at the station half an hour before opening. Visitors can also buy tickets online starting April 8. 1404

Parents and guardians looking to keep kids entertained this summer reportedly helped boost sales of LEGO sets. The company’s second quarter report shows a 14 percent increase in sales during the first half of 2020 over the same time period last year.“During the first half, we saw the benefits of our investments in long-term growth initiatives such as e-commerce and product innovation,” the LEGO Group CEO, Niels B. Christiansen said in a statement. He also thanked employees and colleagues who did “everything they could to stay safe and bring play to children and families around the world.”Despite citing growth in e-commerce, LEGO is planning to open dozens of new stores yet this year. The toy company announced they are still on track to open 120 new stores in 2020, with about 80 of them based in China. They reported 46 stores around the world have already opened this year.Christiansen told the BBC sales of more complicated and larger LEGO sets grew by two and a half times in the first half of the year, possibly as families spent more time at home in lockdown and needed projects to do together. The company’s report also shared the top selling LEGO themes, in no particular order:LEGO TechnicLEGO Speed ChampionsLEGO ClassicLEGO Star WarsLEGO Harry PotterLEGO Disney Princess 1295

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- On dueling sides of the street at Philadelphia’s Center City, supporters of President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden are facing off.“Stop that cheat!” Trump supporters yelled. The epicenter of the vote count in Pennsylvania has been the convention center in Philadelphia, where hundreds of thousands of ballots have been tabulated post-Election Day.“Every vote is sacred!” Biden supporters exclaimed. While there were no reported widespread problems in the state on Election Day, the nonpartisan group “Common Cause Pennsylvania,” said the state could do more to improve on this year’s election. The state legislature previously voted that election officials could not count early and mail-in ballots until Election Day, which delayed results from Pennsylvania. That would be something worth revisiting, Common Cause said. There were also some issues involving people being given provisional ballots – those are the ballots of last resort – when those voters should’ve been allowed to vote using a regular ballot. That was chalked up to an election worker training issue. On top of that, Common Cause Pennsylvania had reports of some people waiting as long as three hours to vote.“That's a barrier, right? People have to work and people have child care, elder care responsibilities,” said Suzanne Almeida, director of Common Cause Pennsylvania. “So, even though vote by mail took a huge burden off that in-person voting, which is fantastic, we're really excited about that, I think there's still more to be done to make sure that that process runs smoothly.”However, there are still a few outstanding issues in Pennsylvania, including those ballots that were post-marked on Election Day, but received after that day, through Friday of that week. Those do count, but they could face legal challenges as to whether they should, which is why election officials have segregated those ballots, just in case. 1944
