SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The City of San Diego is rolling out the second phase of the polystyrene foam and single-use plastics ordinance as the Memorial Day weekend kicks off. Starting May 24, a ban on the sale and distribution of egg cartons, food service ware and food trays made from polystyrene foam begins. The ban includes bowls, plates, trays, cups, lids and other similar items designed for single-use. According to the city, polystyrene foam doesn’t biodegrade and can be mistaken for food by marine life and other animals. Acceptable alternatives include recyclable plastic, aluminum and recyclable paper products, the city says. Some businesses that make less than 0,000 are exempt until 2020. “The City’s goal is to achieve zero waste by 2040,” said the City’s Environmental Services Department Director, Mario X. Anyone who believes they have symptoms resembling the novel coronavirus (which are fever, coughing, and shortness of breath) is asked to contact their medical provider, who will help determine if they need to be tested."We have already identified and issued warning letters to companies found selling and promoting fraudulent items, and we expect additional such actions will be forthcoming," the FDA said.Anyone who believes they have found a vendor selling fake testing kits can report them to the FDA. 1570

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – The Coast Guard Tuesday rescued a 62-year-old man from a fishing boat 72 miles off the coast of San Diego.The crew of the 95-foot boat, called the ‘Oceanside 95,” called the Coast Guard around 11:30 a.m. requesting assistance for a passenger experiencing symptoms of a stroke.Crews arrived on scene around 2:45 p.m. and were able to hoist the man into the Jayhawk helicopter when he was taken to the hospital.The man is said to be in stable condition. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The family of Rebecca Zahau said they are filing a new lawsuit against the San Diego County Sheriff's Office for refusing to provide access to records regarding the sheriff's investigation into her death.The family is also petitioning on the San Diego County Medical Examiner - both current and former - to change her cause of death to homicide or undetermined from suicide.On July 13, 2011, Rebecca Zahau’s nude body was reportedly found hanging from a balcony at the Spreckels Mansion in Coronado. Investigators said her hands and feet were bound with red rope. The same red rope was discovered hanging over the balcony.Authorities said Adam Shacknai called 911 to report her death. Shacknai was staying at the mansion that was owned then by his brother Jonah Shacknai, Zahau's boyfriend.Zahau, 32, had been babysitting her boyfriend’s 6-year-old son Max when he suffered serious injuries in a fall down a staircase at the home. The boy died from his injuries five days later.The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department and Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Zahau’s death a suicide. Authorities have suggested she took her own life out of remorse and sorrow over the boy’s injuries.The Zahau family rejected the suicide conclusion, and for many years, they have believed she was murdered by Adam Shacknai.
