SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A heartbroken woman is making a plea for tips after hundreds of family heirlooms were stolen out of her Allied Gardens home.Last Friday afternoon, Mary Anne Madruga got a wrenching call from her husband."Just a moment of disbelief and shock. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A plan to add bike lanes along 30th Street in North Park got a boost of support Tuesday from a group of 18 businesses.“We see protected lanes on 30th Street as just the beginning of the transformation of our streets to truly support biking, walking, and transit as meaningful transportation choices,” read the letter, which was sent to Mayor Kevin Faulconer and City Councilmember Chris Ward.It was signed by the owners of 18 local businesses located near 30th Street, including Modern Times Beer, Union Cowork, Waypoint Public and Bottlecraft.On Twitter, Modern Times Beer posted the letter, adding “Our world-class businesses deserve world-class streets. We urge the city to stand firm in its commitments to climate, safety, clean air, & thriving business corridors, & stick with Option A.” Here's an important thing we care a lot about: building more bike lanes. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A mistrial has been declared in the trail of the man accused in the disappearance and murder of his stepson.Tieray Jones was charged with the murder of 2-year-old Jahi Turner. Jahi was last seen at a park near Balboa Park in April of 2002.Jones was facing several charges including 2nd degree murder and involuntary manslaughter. Two jurors found Jones guilty of murder while 10 did not while 10 jurors found Jones guilty of involuntary manslaughter and two did not.RELATED: Stepfather facing trial in Jahi Turner murder?During the trial Friday, the judge asked if jurors would be able to reach a verdict if given more time to deliberate. They responded by saying no. The District Attorney will now decide whether or not to retry Jones. Jones reported the boy missing, telling police Jahi wandered off. Jahi was in Jones’ care while the 2-year-old’s mother was on deployment.A countywide search followed with thousands of people looking for the young boy in the park and Golden Hill neighborhood.People also searched the Miramar Landfill, but Jahi was never found. Jones was arrested in North Carolina and charged in the death in April of 2016.Jones faces 25 years to life in prison.  1232

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A powerful new public service campaign called "End Family Fire" launched Wednesday by the Brady Center for Gun Violence Prevention aims to promote awareness for gun safety in the home. The center says eight children are hurt or killed in a firearm accident every single day in the United States. Carol Landale with the Brady Center says the goal of the campaign is to show people that something can be done. According to the center, more than four and a half million children live in homes with loaded and unlocked guns, and three in four know where the guns in their home are stored.The term, “Family Fire” was developed specifically for this campaign and refers to a shooting involving an improperly stored or misused gun found in the home that results in death or injury.The Brady Center’s goal is to introduce “Family Fire” into the vocabulary of the American public, much like "Designate a Driver" and "Secondhand Smoke Kills" became powerful and effective slogans for their respective causes.  1071

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A number of drivers who parked their cars in Little Italy this week got a nasty surprise when they tried to leave.Their cars were trapped because other people parked next to them on Beech Street."I can't figure out how the city has made such a mess of this street," said Andrea Silva, who lives downtown. The issue happened because the city restriped one side of the road from Front to Sixth Avenue as part of its downtown mobility plan. The idea is to move the parking spots away from the curbs toward the middle of the street. The area in between the cars and curb would then become a dedicated bike and scooter lane, separated by pillars. The city recently completed those lanes on J Street in the East Village.The problem on Beech Street arose because crews painted the new mid-street parking spots, but didn't add any signage, curb painting or other barriers to alert drivers not to park on the curb. That lead to people parking where they are used to, with others parking next to them in the new spots. "I'd definitely be mad," said John Shores, who was staying downtown. "I couldn't go anywhere until these people decide to move."City spokesman Anthony Santacroce said crews should have the work completed by early next week, with pillars keeping the cars from going up to the curb on Beech Street. He said workers will also put up work zone warning signs to alert drivers to not park on the side of the street. "During the short amount of time between painting of new parking spaces and the construction of the cycle tracks, cars were permitted to park in both the new spaces and the soon-to-be removed spaces along the curb," Santacroce said. "Although we understand that this could lead to some confusion, the intent was not to limit parking until the final phase of construction."The downtown mobility plan, in the first of three phases, connects the East Village to Little Italy, emphasizing alternate methods of transportation. 1967
