(KGTV) - The San Diego Police Department is launching its "bait bike" program in Point Loma and Ocean Beach after its success in Pacific Beach.The program outfits bikes with GPS devices that notify officers when a bike is being stolen. All students living on-campus who have moved out, will be receiving reimbursement for both housing and meal plans, campus officials said.]SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- SDSU students have largely moved out of off-campus housing as classes at the university have moved online to help stop the spread of Coronavirus.Some students are having trouble getting out of their leases. Sheli Riley has received emails from Capstone Management Company offering options to students like her daughter Kristin. "Everyone's gone. Everyone's home," says Kristin, as she and her mom made plans Saturday to pack up the apartment she shares with four friends. Saturday was the deadline for students in on-campus housing to move out. The normally bustling campus was mostly quiet. Sheli lamented the challenges for college students whose semesters have come to an abrupt halt. "You're in this great time of your life, loving every aspect of living there. All of a sudden you came home for the weekend and now it's over, she says." Sheli shared emails with 10News outlining the options they were given by the management company, which owns and operates the M@College apartments. According to the email, students can move out by April 1st and receive a small credit toward their leases. If the student finds someone to sublet, they receive an additional credit. Students are still responsible through the end of July, or the end of their lease term. Alternatively, if students choose to stay on campus, they receive a discount on rent, but the company may sublet the additional rooms of these shared apartments, which presents parents like Sheli with safety concerns. She would like to see the university intervene. SDSU sent 10News a statement saying in part, "these apartments are privately owned an operated," despite being on SDSU's campus. Capstone management also sent a statement, saying in part that they are working with the university to offer options to students. Sheli says one major frustration has been that the company has only offered a mailing address for any and all questions, rather than a phone number or email address to reach someone who might be able to help."It's hard when you hear they're doing relief from rent, nationwide... yet you get this through the university through the Montage." 2515

(KGTV) - The California Department of Motor Vehicles announced plans Monday to close for half a day in July to conduct employee customer service training. Operation Excellence: DMV Training will “equip employees with the tools they need to handle an unprecedented volume of REAL ID applications,” said DMV officials. Californians will be required to show a REAL ID-compliant license or identification card, or passport, to fly in the U.S. starting Oct. 1, 2020. RELATED: If you don't have a star on your license, flying will become more difficult for you in 2020“The unprecedented complexity of the REAL ID requirements is what led to the idea that we needed to take the extraordinary step of closing DMV offices for a short time to make sure all employees have consistent information in order to complete the transactions successfully,” said Government Operations Agency Secretary Marybel Batjer, who is leading the DMV Strike Team. “It is a complicated transaction and we want customers to be well prepared in order to receive their REAL ID efficiently.” Training sessions for more than 5,000 workers will take place at 183 DMV field offices, commercial drive test centers, and industry business centers statewide. “Our employees are at the heart of every transaction we perform,” said Kathleen Webb, DMV acting director. “With this commitment to training, we can ensure they have the proper tools, knowledge, and experience to provide excellent customer service to the people of California.” RELATED: California's REAL ID requirements now accepted by government“Field offices need to be prepared for at least a doubling of customer volume as the enforcement date approaches,” said DMV officials. (KGTV) - The group leading the campaign to transform the San Diego County Credit Union Stadium site into a west campus for San Diego State University has major concerns over the question that will be posed to voters on the November ballot. Friends of SDSU is dismayed to the point that the issue could wind up in court. "Our position is we've correctly portrayed the initiative measure in our corrected version. If that isn't acceptable for whatever reason, we'll have to determine whatever remedies are available," Attorney Ken Lounsbery, speaking on behalf of the campaign, said to the City Council on Monday. RELATED: San Diego State's Mission Valley stadium plan includes NFL possibilitySDSU West is competing with SoccerCity, a private development, over the future of the 166-acre site. Both are promising a smaller stadium with a river park. The City Attorney's office, which is suing to get both thrown off the ballot, developed the language for both initiatives to go before voters. The SDSU West question, of 75 words, doesn't say the university would buy the land for fair market value.
