TUCSON, Arizona — As teachers vote on a potential walk out their employers are trying to figure out what to do if that happens.Tucson Unified School District Superintendent Gabriel Trujillo said Tuesday a prolonged walk out that affects final exams could jeopardize high school graduation schedules.He says TUSD is trying to find a way to keep schools open and busses running so students who rely on schools for meals can eat. That would include a skeletal bus schedule and at least some staff coming to work. “Schools physically would be open, but instructional services would be closed. Two young brothers in Peoria, Arizona, are hoping to bring smiles to COVID-19 patients by sending homemade cards to Valley hospitals.Hurshneet and Pravneet Chadha said they created "Project Smile AZ" to spread positivity. They got the idea after listening to their parents, who are both doctors, speak about COVID-19 patients going through treatment alone in hospitals."We wanted to make them feel accompanied on their journey to get better," said 15-year-old Hurshneet. "We want to make sure everyone is fine, and we want to make sure everyone is happy."When they started, they delivered 150 cards to Banner Health. The response was so great that they decided to keep going."We've had many people reach out to us to send cards to our PO box, as well as hospital CEOs have reached out to us, sending us thank you letters to our email so that made us very proud," he said.Now, they've distributed 1,200 cards to the Navajo Nation, Circle the City, a nonprofit, and several hospitals in the Valley."It helps the patients when we give it to them, and they're saying they put a smile on their faces when they receive them as well, so that's my favorite part," said 12-year-old Pravneet.Through social media, they've gotten classmates and other groups to donate cards, but they make most of them in their living room."We come up with anything that we think would inspire the patient," said Hurshneet. UPS has reportedly told its drivers to stop picking up packages from several national retailers as they try to keep up with record-breaking online shopping this holiday season.Online shopping has seen record highs in 2020, as people heed public safety warnings during the coronavirus pandemic and avoid shopping in person.The National Retail Federation estimates online shopping during the five-day period including Black Friday and Cyber Monday jumped 44 percent. Adobe Analytics estimates online shopping on Thanksgiving and Black Friday were both up 22 percent compared to last year, and that Black Friday was the highest-grossing online shopping day in history. An internal memo at UPS, obtained by the Wall Street Journal, indicates the company placed temporary shipping restrictions on retailers like Nike, Gap, Macy’s, L.L. Bean and others. Twitter is reopening its application for people to apply for a verified badge.The social media giant announced through a blog post that they are working on a new verification policy and are inviting feedback from the public before they implement it. Accounts that would be eligible for having a blue badge next to their name would work in government, non-profits, news, entertainment, sports, and those described as "influential individuals."Twitter said they've added proposed criteria to automatically remove verification from inactive accounts or remove badges from accounts that repeatedly violate Twitter rules.The public feedback period will last from Nov. 24 to Dec. 8, Twitter stated on its FAQ.Twitter said they'll begin to enforce the new policy on Dec. 17. 775
