SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Spirit Airlines flight leaving San Diego's airport was stopped on the runway Thursday when the plane had a hydraulic fluid leak at Lindbergh Field.The incident happened just after 9 a.m., according to the San Diego Fire Department. No smoke made its way into the cabin and no fire was reported. Crews towed the aircraft back to its terminal.No injuries were reported. Spirit Airlines spokesman Stephen Schuler issued a statement just after noon which reads, "Spirit Airlines flight 359 from San Diego to Las Vegas returned to the gate following a reported mechanical issue. The captain of another aircraft in line for takeoff reported smoke from the rear landing gear and fire officials responded accordingly. The aircraft was towed to the gate, where our mechanics and FAA inspectors discovered it was nothing more than condensation. The plane is scheduled to take off shortly.  We apologize for any inconvenience to our guests."  995

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — An Escondido Union School District school is suspending on-campus operations for the rest of the month after three positive COVID-19 tests.Three people in the Pioneer School community tested positive for the virus in separate, unrelated instances off-campus. Due to this, and the high case rate in the surrounding area, the school district says it is temporarily suspending all on-campus activities at Pioneer School through Nov. 30.The suspension includes pausing the school's hybrid instruction model and extended care, and moving students to virtual learning. The school's distribution of free, to-go meals will continue."EUSD’s decision to suspend on-campus learning at Pioneer School was not directed by a public health department. County health officials have continued to express confidence in EUSD’s health and safety protocols. This decision was made to ensure the stability of the educational program offered to our students, as well as to continue our commitment to ensuring the health and safety of our students and employees," a district statement read.The school says the campus closure will affect 449 students. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A series of closures are set for Interstate 5 throughout June and possibly into July for Mid-Coast trolley construction.SANDAG says the closures will allow crews to remove and install temporary wooden structures to support the trolley bridge, also called falsework. The falsework currently on Voigt Drive will be removed and installed just south of Nobel Drive to support a second trolley overcrossing. Both trolley overcrossings will span the I-5, SANDAG says.A full closure of southbound I-5 lanes will start on Sunday, June 9, from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night Sunday through Thursday, and will run through Friday, June 28. The closure covers I-5/I-805 interchange to La Jolla Colony Dr. Detours will be set up for motorists to use southbound I-805 and westbound State Route 52 in place of the stretch of I-5.Once the southbound closure is complete, a full northbound closure will be needed.The Mid-Coast trolley will eventually extend the Blue Line trolley from Old Town Transit Center to the UC San Diego area. Trolley service is expected to begin in late 2021. 1096

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A woman broke her thigh bone after she was riding on a motorized scooter and lost control in downtown San Diego Friday.The 65-year-old woman was riding a Bird scooter just before 2 p.m. in the Embarcadero area, according to San Diego Police. Her family members were also riding scooters with her.For some reason, police say the woman lost control of the scooter and overturned. She was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for a fractured Femur.No one else was injured.RELATED:  512

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A year-long construction project to improve State Route 163 hit a milestone Tuesday morning with the completion of work on Friars and Frazee Roads.Crews arrived early in the morning, finishing up last minute preps before the big reveal. One noticeably new addition are signal lights put in place to help regulate the flow of traffic.The city also made improvements, like adding lanes on Friars Road. There are four lanes going east and four lanes going west. Changes to the on and off ramps from the 163 onto Friars Road may reduce the confusion and congestion caused by the old traffic pattern. Crews also added sidewalks and clearly-marked bike lanes. “We can separate and have a path for all modes of traffic including foot and bike traffic. So, it will be safer for everyone using Friars Road. It’s a safer facility now that we made these improvements," said a Caltrans spokesperson.The “Open for Business,” ceremony took place at 10 a.m. 969
