KIRKWOOD, Calif. -- A 7-year-old boy and his mother were killed when a massive block of snow fell from a roof several feet from the front door of the condo they were staying in Monday. The Alpine County Sheriff’s Department said 50-year-old Olga Perkovic and her son, Aaron Goodstein were returning to the condo after skiing when a trailer-sized block of snow collapsed onto them.Rescuers held an hours-long search at the nearby Kirkwood Ski Resort because the two had boarded a lift in the afternoon.    RELATED: San Diego native who survived NorCal avalanche thanks rescuers? The mother and son were found beneath three feet of snow after a neighbor saw ski gloves nearby. KANSAS CITY, Kansas — A second company associated with Schlitterbahn has been named in a newly unsealed criminal indictment.Henry & Sons Construction is listed as a co-defendant in the murder case of 10 year old Caleb Schwab. The boy died on the Verruckt water slide in 2016.According to the indictment, Henry & Sons was the design and construction company for Verruckt.Reviews posted online by people who identify themselves as former employees raise safety concerns before the Schwab tragedy. On the job website Indeed.com, a person who identifies himself as a former welder for Henry & Sons submitted a February 2015 review for the company. The review claims management would ignore issues or "let them pass" like damaged work equipment. The welder also says managers wouldn't require a safety harness to work six feet off the ground and they "just wanted to get the job done no matter how risky it could be."Other review headlines include "Unsafe Working Environment", "Lack of Management Skills" and "Unorganized."At least one poster, however, gave the company five stars, calling it "an amazing place to work." The latest indictment states company owner Jeff Henry hired a man named John Hunsucker as a consultant for the operation and safety of Verruckt. But Hunsucker told investigators that while he could make suggestions, it was only Henry who made the decisions. The indictment further says Henry never asked Hunsucker to check if the water slide met industry safety standards, which the indictment claims in many ways it did not. 1587

Jasmin Lara does not consider herself a hero. She is a mom, doing something extraordinary to protect what is most precious in the world.“My oldest, Alexander, he’s 7 now,” Lara said. “When he was a toddler, he had a lot of respiratory infections. I was constantly in the emergency room with him. Turns out he had enlarged tonsils.”This moment motivated her to do something she had never thought of accomplishing: she enrolled in college to become a nurse and help her child.Lara is one of the hundreds of new health care students across the country to answer the call in the battle against COVID-19. Their training is not the same as it was a year ago, when hour-long, in-person lectures prepared students.Currently, future nurses can watch 10-minute YouTube video lectures from home, develop critical thinking skills via online virtual simulation clinics and interactive digital case studies.Fortunately for these students, the school finalized construction of their new state of the art labs in the summer amid the pandemic. 1034
