RALEIGH, N.C. — Young rising GOP star Madison Cawthorn has been elected to represent a North Carolina U.S. House district. The 25-year-old's win in the 11th Congressional District allows him to fill a vacant seat previously held by Republican Rep. Mark Meadows. Meadows left to serve as President Donald Trump’s chief of staff. Cawthorn defeated Democrat and retired U.S. Air Force Col. Moe Davis. Cawthorn will be one of the youngest people to ever serve in the U.S. Congress. He first drew attention after defeating Trump’s preferred candidate in an upset in the June GOP primary runoff.The previous youngest elected member in modern history was Alexandria Ocasio Cortez who was 29 years when she was sworn in for her first term in January 2018. The youngest member of the House of Representatives ever elected was William Charles Cole Claiborne of Tennessee, according to U.S. House records. Claiborne was elected in 1797, he was only 22 years old. He was reportedly seated, even though the constitutional age requirement is 25 years old for representatives. 1070

Reporters from many news organizations have expressed support for CNN's Jim Acosta after the White House revoked his press pass.The "hard pass," which speeds up entry to the White House grounds, was suspended by the Trump administration on Wednesday night "until further notice." RACINE, Wisconsin -- Manufacturer SC Johnson announced Wednesday that between 300 and 400 positions in the company would be eliminated due to an organizational change.The change was first announced to employees back in January, according to a statement from the company. Some of the eliminated roles were already open and will not be filled, while others will result in employees losing their jobs."Many affected employees" were notified Wednesday, the statement says."The company is healthy and our brands continue to be leaders in their categories," said Kelly M. President-elect Joe Biden pleaded with Americans to adopt public health best practices during the Thanksgiving holiday in the hopes of preventing the spread of COVID-19.Biden called for unity among Americans in attempting to snuff out the spread of the virus."We're at war with the virus. Not with one another. Not with each other," he said.Biden pleaded with Americans to avoid large gatherings over Thanksgiving and added that the nation owed it to essential health care workers, who are currently battling a concerning spike in cases."The federal government can't (fight the virus) alone," Biden said.Biden said he would be celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday in Delaware on Thursday along with his wife, Jill, his daughter and his son-in-law. President Donald Trump suggested Friday that the federal government could play a role in a possible recount of Florida's close Senate and gubernatorial races."If you look at Broward and Palm Beach (counties) to a lesser extent ... they have had a horrible history," Trump told reporters at the White House before departing for Paris."And if you look at the person, in this case a woman, involved -- she has had a horrible history," Trump said. It was unclear to whom Trump was referring, but Republican Gov.
