SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - In a follow-up to a Team10 story from last week about sexual harassment allegations at a local nonprofit, the man who is accused is coming forward to try to clear his name.  Last week Team10 aired an emotional interview with San Diegan Angelique Williams, who claimed that Gregory Hamilton, a former teacher who works as a local pastor, repeatedly harassed her with unwanted sexual advances. Hamilton is now firing back. "Read my lips. There has never been sexual harassment with Angelique Williams on any day on the face of this earth," he tells us. After cancelling on us multiple times before our original story aired, this week he finally agreed to do an on-camera interview to share his side of the story.  Williams was an adult student at San Diego's Second Chance nonprofit training program, where Hamilton was her job training instructor. He also works as a pastor at Uptown Church of Christ. The church's website reads it first congregated under his leadership in 2009.  When we asked the nonprofit about the sexual harassment allegations, they sent back a statement that read in part, "We agree that what happened to Ms. Williams should not happen to anyone." It also read, "He was later terminated." In the new interview, Hamilton tells us he never received anything from the nonprofit saying he was charged with sexual harassment. He says that before his termination, he had been threatening legal action against the nonprofit. "[It was] about the disparity of the treatment of African American people that come [to the nonprofit] compared to Latino people for assistance," he says. Hamilton showed us a letter that he says he got from the nonprofit. It explains how he was terminated for not meeting the requirements of a performance improvement plan. There is no mention of harassment. In our initial story, he sent us a copy of another letter that he says he got from the nonprofit. It was a confidential separation agreement with a severance payment of ,760.00. There was also no mention of harassment. When we had asked Second Chance about the separation agreement and severance, they declined to comment, citing privacy issues.  Williams firmly believes Hamilton sexually harassed her. She says he'd inappropriately touch her, repeatedly call her, and send suggestive text messages.  Hamilton maintains it was Williams who advanced on him. Not the other way. He says his only intention was a friendship. He would not show us most of the text exchanges between the two of them, adding he would save those to show in court.   We asked Second Chance for an explanation as to why harassment was not included as a basis for the termination in the letter he showed us. As of air time this Wednesday, Second Chance wrote it was unavailable for comment.Below is one of the statements Second Chance issued to us before the original story aired. "Second Chance strives to ensure all members of our community have the means to achieve self-sufficiency, regardless of gender, age, race, or criminal history. Our organization maintains and adheres to a zero-tolerance policy for harassment and takes appropriate measures, including maintaining written policies, providing training, and promptly addressing any allegations made to the organization to ensure all individuals are provided an environment that is professional and free from harassment. Additionally, all potential employees undergo multiple pre-employment screenings, and state and federal background checks must be satisfactorily completed before an individual begins working for our organization. The situation in question was promptly addressed by the organization in full accordance with our policies. Out of consideration for the privacy interests of those involved and our legal obligations, we cannot further comment on the specifics of this situation."  Hamilton sent us a text on Wednesday stating he plans to start a support group called #NotMe for men and women who have been accused of offenses they did not commit and subsequently suffer psychologically, emotionally, financially and socially.  4713

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — In Pacific Beach, it's common to see scooters in the flow of traffic. At night, it's the same story. Firefighters plagued with trauma patients from scooter crashes. Crews say they often see people using them to bar hop.A study released Thursday reveals data supporting exactly that. The study focuses on 103 patients and after tests it shows that half of them were drunk. Even more surprising, 52% were high on drugs. The study pulled data from UCSD Medical Center, Scripps Mercy Medical Center, and a hospital in Austin, Texas."We were concerned this would become the next big public health issue," says UC San Diego Health Dr. Leslie Kobayashi. The study looked at patients between September 1, 2017 to October 31, 2018."Spinal fractures and spinal chord injuries," Kobayashi says, recalling injuries. "I myself saw one patient who was not able to be salvaged because of a severe overwhelming devastating head injury."Kobayashi seeing the skyrocketing trend from the emergency room.New rules started in June to combat these stats, like limiting the speed of scooters in places like the boardwalk and forcing riders to park scooters in corrals.Firefighters in Pacific Beach say they're seeing less injuries in the last month.Kobayashi hopes it's just the beginning."Reducing the speeds, limiting the times of day it can be used, and whether or not protective gear, most importantly helmets are going to have an impact on injury prevention," Kobayashi added. The conclusion of the study reads, "eScooter-related trauma has significantly increased over time. Alcohol and illicit substance use among these patients was common, and helmet use was extremely rare. Significant injuries including intracranial hemorrhage and fractures requiring operative intervention were present in over half (51%) of patients. Interventions aimed at increasing helmet use and discouraging eScooter operation while intoxicated are necessary to reduce the burden of eScooter-related trauma."10News reached out to Bird and Lime for a response.Lime said they are "piloting a new function in the app - “Don’t drink and ride” - whereby those trying to rent a Lime after 10pm now have to confirm they are not attempting to rider under the influence."Both companies said safety is their priority.Bird sent us this statement, in part, "The rules of the road, apply to everyone — whether behind the wheel, walking, cycling or on a scooter. We go to great lengths to educate and inform riders about the dangers of distracted riding, including riding under the influence, as well as educating them on how to identify drivers who might be operating cars under the influence." They provide in-app messages and emails reminding riders not to drink and ride. The study acknowledges their information may be skewed, "Using patients only from Level 1 trauma centers may skew our data by excluding many of the less severely injured patients who were triaged to lower level trauma centers and non-trauma centers." 2995

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — It's already been one year since the San Diego Zoo Safari Park saw the first southern white rhino born through artificial insemination arrive at its park.Edward turned one-year-old on July 28, celebrating with a party at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park’s Nikita Kahn Rhino Rescue Center with his mother Victoria, 8-month-old female calf Future, and her mother Amani."Even though he doesn’t know it’s his birthday, it is very special to see Edward – a healthy, robust rhino - running around, enjoying his special treats," said Barbara Durrant, director of Reproductive Sciences at San Diego Zoo Global. "We aren’t just celebrating his birthday but also are celebrating the significance of his birth."Edward was born last year after hormone-induced ovulation and artificial insemination with frozen semen from southern white rhino Maoto on March 22, 2018. Victoria gave birth 16 months later. Edward's birth was the zoo's first successful attempt to birth a southern white rhino via artificial insemination and a critical step toward recovering its distant cousin, the northern white rhino. Currently, only two northern white rhinos exist in the world and both are female.Researchers believe that a northern white rhino calf could be born from artificial insemination within 10 to 20 years. 1313
