SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego resident is one of three patients across California infected with salmonella linked to an herbal supplement.The 44-year-old resident is the latest patient in the multi-state outbreak, according to the San Diego County Health and Human Service Agency.The supplement, kratom, is used as a stimulant and opioid substitute. It's also known as thang, kakuam, thom, ketom, biak, and Mitragyna speciosa, according to county health officials.RELATED: 28 sick in salmonella outbreak linked to kratom, CDC saysThe San Diego patient fell ill in January but has since recovered. They were not hospitalized, officials said.The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has identified at least 40 cases of salmonellosis in 27 states. Fourteen patients have been hospitalized. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An El Centro teacher was arraigned Tuesday after she was accused of providing marijuana and alcohol to students on a school camping trip.Monique Garcia, 50, faces two felony charges and three misdemeanor charges garnering a maximum sentence of 8 years and 4 months in state prison, according to the District Attorney's Office.Deputy District Attorney Stephen Marquardt said a 17-year-old student on the trip gave Garcia a ride to a grocery store where she bought alcohol and then drove to a dispensary where she bought cannabis, including edibles.Marquardt said students were intoxicated and became sick after consuming the alcohol and/or cannabis.According to the Southwest High School website, Garcia was head of the math department. The Central Union High School District sent a statement to 10News reading in full: "In order to protect the integrity of the judicial process, Central Union High School District does not comment on ongoing or pending proceedings. Monique Garcia is no longer employed by the District. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — An evacuee who tested positive for the coronavirus in San Diego was mistakenly released back into quarantine because their test sample was mislabeled.Four evacuees were brought from MCAS Miramar to UC San Diego Medical Center and provided samples for testing within the last week. Three of those four samples were not labeled in compliance with the same regulations between UC San Diego Health and the CDC, according to a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention spokesperson.Because of this, when the samples were brought to the CDC in Atlanta, three of them were not immediately processed.RELATED: First case of coronavirus confirmed in San DiegoThe CDC says the team in Atlanta then reported that the samples tested negative, when three of those samples had not actually been tested.As those three patients were heading back to the base to finish out their 14-day quarantine orders, the mistake was discovered.
